Gillian Anderson has revealed her surprise at a different starring role – on the backside of some of her fans.
The actress, who plays Emily Maitlis in new Netflix drama Scoop, said passionate punters get her face inked on them. But US-born Gillian said she was flattered and paid tribute to “the attention to detail with some of the fans”.
She continued: “I’ve seen tattoos where someone has had my face on their rear-end or wherever, or people who have created pieces of art or Lego sculptures dedicated to characters I’ve played.

“There is a lot of attention to detail. The time some of the die-hard fans take is the most moving and remarkable.”
Gillian, 55, has become a regular fixture on the small screen thanks to playing therapist Jean in Sex Education and former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in The Crown. But she said it was her breakthrough part as FBI Special Agent Dana Scully in the cult sci-fi series The X-Files that most telly addicts want to talk about.

Gillian explained: “It’s weird. Sometimes, I don’t get recognised in places where you’d think I would, then in places where you’d swear they’d never seen anything ever, I do get recognised.”
Her latest hit series is Scoop, where she stars as newshound Emily Maitlis grilling Prince Andrew in a recreation of his infamous interview in which he claimed he didn’t sweat.
The episodes feature the run-up to the cringeworthy chat behind the scenes and stars Rufus Sewell as the Duke of York.
Gillian added: “It was fun. Rufus and I actually prepared separately, so it felt like a big moment. The interview itself was 50 minutes long, our version of it is about ten minutes, so it’s like a more compressed and intense version.

“But I really enjoyed it and I think Rufus did an incredible job. Emily is interesting, because sometimes she talks very fast and sometimes she slows everything right down, so it was about feeling confident in being able to give both versions of that.
“I did a lot of paying attention to Emily’s mannerisms, things like when she looked up and when she looks at her notes. Part of it was definitely the holding of the Bic pen and the way she gesticulates with her hands.
“It was a drag when I saw how many times she looks down at her notes because it looks like I might be looking at my lines.”
