A Place in the Sun host ‘lost for words’ as couple raise complaint about property

A Place in the Sun’s Ben Hillman was left gobsmacked when a couple revealed the reason they were willing to pay almost £40,000 under the asking price for their dream holiday home

A Place in the Sun host Ben Hillman was gobsmacked when a couple threw a curveball decision on the popular Channel 4 show.

Brighton locals Nick and Denise, who’ve been an item for over three decades, were out to snag their ideal vacay pad in Corfu with Ben steering the ship.

The duo – parents to three grown-up kids – had a hefty £300k to drop on a beachfront home with at least a couple of bedrooms and space outside for dining al fresco. Big spender Ben flagged up their “huge” pot of cash, but Denise clapped back, saying: “That doesn’t get you a lot here.”

The telly favourite gave them the heads up that they might need to skimp on some wishes because of the sky-high prices in town.

The first gaff, coming in cheaper than expected at £280k, knocked their socks off. Nick gushed: “I didn’t expect it to be this good so early on.”

But the place wasn’t all sunshine for Denise, who wasn’t thrilled about how “close proximity to each other’s outside dining spaces,” reports the Mirror.

They split hairs over the second spot, which was a bit steep at £322,034.

Denise wasn’t sold on the outside stairs leading to the top floor. Hoping to cheer them up, Ben whisked them off to a beach but Denise and Nick had already fallen for another seaside spot they reckoned was “calmer” and “prettier” than the one Ben had up his sleeve.

Ben was left absolutely dumbfounded on the show when he blurted out, “Stop right there – you’re telling me this is rough sea.”

Without skipping a beat, Denise clapped back, “It can be actually.”

Despite the wee mix-up, Ben kept his spirits high, hoping the pair would get keen on the area as he trotted out a third gaff with four bedrooms and a swanky swimming pool. Both Denise and Phil were proper charmed by the joint.

But then, Ben was lost for words when they dropped the bombshell that the place was “too big” for just a holiday pad. Fans were buzzing on social media, throwing in their two cents, with one firing off, “They didn’t like the property as it was too big. That’s a new one.”

Ben came roaring back with the final home tour, unveiling a stunner that shot straight to the top as a “super strong contender.”

The property won over the couple, with them dubbing it the “piece de resistance” and they couldn’t wait to slap down an offer. Yet, the duo’s decision to lob a bid way below the asking price because of the morning coffee trip commute blew viewers’ minds.

Some fans were having none of it, slamming their cheeky punt for almost £40,000 less battling, with one telly-watcher ranting, “Cheeky sods. £38k. Ffs because they have to drive for a coffee. Heard it all now.”

Another fan was puzzled, asking, “How is the property owner responsible for 40k of morning coffee runs?” But as luck would have it, Denise and Nick snagged the dream house for a steal at £322,000.
