Actress Christine Tremarco plays Jamie’s mum Manda Miller in the four-part drama. She has now addressed rumours of a second series and revealed she’s known Stephen, who plays Jamie’s dad, Eddie Miller, for years.

Christine appeared on ITV’s Lorraine to talk about the show on Monday (March 24). Christine told host Lorraine Kelly: “Me and Stephen have known each other since we were kids.

“Our mums were best friends when we were growing up in Kirby. So, I think that our friendship, without a doubt, lent itself to Manda and Eddie and their relationship.

“But also, with Stephen, the creator and co-writer of the show, with the brilliant Jack Thorne. And then we’ve got Phil Barantini, who is from Huyton in Liverpool. I’ve known Phil for a long time too.”

Fans have been wondering if a second series of Adolescence could be made. During the interview, Lorraine quizzed Christine on these rumours, asking: “Do you think there might be a sequel? I’d love to find out what happens. I’m left with so many questions!”

Christine replied: “You’re not alone, a couple of people have said that! But maybe that’s a good thing, because it leaves you thinking about what would happen afterwards. But, I think this is a one-off. I think ends with episode four.”

Adolescence was originally created to shine light on the sudden increase in violent acts committed by teenage boys against teenage girls in Britain. He teamed up with writer Jack Thorne to bring his vision to life.

Discussing the birth of the series, Stephen said: “We made a piece that was based on truth and things that are happening in Britain with young men stabbing young girls to death. We just wanted to shine a light there, and, predominantly, we just wanted to create conversation between parents and children.”

He added, referencing the show’s impact: “We made it with such love, such integrity, such respect, and it came from a place of passion for each and every single member [of] the crew — and I include the cast as the crew. We’re all a collective. And it was probably the most joyous experience I’ve ever had as an actor.…

I think, because it was made from love, we made our little stone, our pebble or whatever it was, and we threw it into the universe, and it landed in the pond. And the ripple effect has been, in all honesty, slightly overwhelming.

“You have no idea of the impact it can have. But the intention was always from a place of purity, truth, and honesty.”

Each episode of Adolescence is filmed in one hour-long continuous take, without any edits or CGI. All four episodes are available to stream on Netflix.
