ITV2 has announced a one-off special episode of Love Island will air before the new summer series
The anticipation for Love Island season 12 is ramping up, and there’s a cracking surprise in store before the new series kicks off. ITV2 has today (17th May) unveiled a one-off anniversary special titled Love Island: A Decade of Love, set to air ahead of the summer series this June.
While the powers that be haven’t yet spilled the beans on the official launch date for the new series, fans are betting it’ll start on either Monday 2nd June or 9th June, following the pattern of previous seasons which have typically hit screens on the first Monday of June. If their hunch is right, we could be seeing the anniversary episode in just a few weeks.
Per ITV’s blurb, the special episode will “revisit unforgettable moments from the past decade – from explosive recouplings and shock bombshells to the love stories that captured the nation.”
It’ll also offer “exclusive interviews and behind-the-scenes insights, and explore Love Island’s impact on TV, culture, and those who’ve stepped foot in the villa.”
But which couples are making a comeback to mark the milestone? Here’s a sneak peek at some of the familiar faces you’ll see in the episode, reports OK!.
Millie Court and Liam Reardon
Among the returning stars are season seven winners Millie Court and Liam Reardon, who’ve had their fair share of highs and lows since waving goodbye to the villa.
The pair met and fell in love on the ITV show in the summer of 2021, eventually taking home the £50,000 prize. By November of that year, they had moved in together, excitedly sharing on social media that they were “starting a new chapter.”
However, in a shocking turn of events in July 2022, the reality stars announced they had parted ways. Fast forward to the summer of 2023, and the couple confirmed they had rekindled their romance.
Following their reunion, Millie revealed that their breakup had been amicable, dispelling fans’ speculation that it was due to Liam’s infidelity.
Today, they remain a strong couple and even co-host a relationship podcast called The Liam and Millie Podcast.
Kai Fagan and Sanam Harrinanan
Congratulations are in order for season nine winners Kai Fagan and Sanam Harrinanan, who are set to exchange vows this August. After meeting on the 2023 summer series, the couple announced their engagement in April 2024, with Kai sharing a heartfelt post on Instagram.
He wrote: “Introducing the next Mrs Fagan. Beautiful, caring, loving and smart are just some of the words that describe you. I love loving you, I love you and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.”
Sanam later revealed that their big day will be on 1st August, and we expect her to share some details about the wedding in the anniversary episode.
Cara De La Hoyde-Massey and Nathan Massey
One of Love Island’s most beloved pairings, Cara De La Hoyde-Massey and Nathan Massey, will grace the ITV special. The lovebirds clinched victory in season two and have since tied the knot, becoming proud parents to Freddie and Delilah.
However, their journey hasn’t been without its challenges. In 2024, Cara disclosed that they had a temporary split during her first pregnancy.
She confided in the MadebyMammas Podcast: “As soon as I found out I was pregnant we split up. Could not stand each other, hated each other, we were just together for work.”
Despite the turmoil, she maintained a positive public front, stating: “In the press I would never slate him. I would never let on that we didn’t like each other. Whatever you put out there is there forever.”
Thankfully, the couple managed to patch things up and remain happily married.
Indiyah Polack and Dami Hope
Another fairy tale from the hit reality series, season eight finalists Indiyah Polack and Dami Hope are also set to appear in the episode. The couple initially paired up in the summer 2022 series and experienced turbulence when they both recoupled during Casa Amor.
Nonetheless, they reconciled and exited the villa together. Three years on, they’re still an item, frequently sharing glimpses of their romance on social media.
Who else will be featured in the special?
It’s not only the legendary duos making a comeback, other cherished islanders are also set to grace our screens. The line-up includes Hannah Elizabeth, Gabby Allen, Montana Brown, Dani Dyer, Georgia Steel, Curtis Pritchard, Anton Danyluk, Whitney Adebayo and Catherine Agbaje.
Show bosses have hinted that even more past cast members will be reappearing, but they’re keeping shtum on who exactly for now.
All Love Island seasons are streaming now on ITVX.
