The BAFTAs 2025 red carpet seemed eerily empty at times, with the likes of James Norton, Ralph Fiennes, Demi Moore and Pamela Anderson among those choosing to not speak to the press aand skip straight to photoshoots
The 2025 BAFTAs red carpet was noticeably sparse at times, with celebrities including James Norton, Ralph Fiennes, Demi Moore and Pamela Anderson opting to bypass interviews and head straight for photoshoots.
Insiders have since hinted that some celebs were keen to dodge “awkward questions” about the controversy surrounding Emilia Perez actress Karla Sofia Gascon.
Some stars briefly engaged in a live stream on the carpet with the event organisers, they still breezed past the press.
Gascon herself did not show up at the ceremony, even though the film had garnered 11 nominations and she was up for Best Leading Actress.
Her chances of BAFTA recognition crumbled when old tweets surfaced. The Spanish actress has “sincerely apologised to everyone who has been hurt” and withdrawn from the film’s awards campaign.
Netflix, the film’s distributor, has allegedly removed Gascon from promotional emails and intends to modify the film’s posters to highlight co-star Zoe Saldaña, who won Best Supporting Actress, more prominently.
The Marvel sensation seemed gobsmacked as she hit the stage to accept the award, but as she got into her speech, emotions ran high, her voice quivered, and a few choice words slipped out as she expressed gratitude to her fellow cast members and the crew from the flick
Prior to the unearthing of her historic remarks on X, the transgender actress had been lauded for her lead role in Emilia Perez as a Mexican drug cartel boss undergoing sex change surgery.
Despite the main cast dodging the press, the Netflix movie still won Best Film Not In The English Language. Meanwhile, BAFTA hopeful ‘Wicked’, featuring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, made waves on the red carpet.
Cynthia, buzzing with joy, was spotted hobnobbing with the industry crowd and was overheard thanking fellow ‘Wicked’ stars with: “Thank you for everything that you do.”
