The People Just Do Nothing star issued a warning to fans about riding bikes after drinking, after revealing that he ended up in hospital after falling from his Lime bike
A BBC star was rushed to hospital after suffering a nasty e-bike accident while drunk.
Steve Stamp – who is best known for playing Steven Green in the hit sitcom People Just Do Nothing – was cycling home on a Lime bike when the accident took place, landing him in A&E. He took to Instagram to tell fans what had happened and warned them about cycling after drinking.
It comes just weeks after another BBC star was taken to hospital. Holby City actor and Hollyoaks star David Ames was left in “absolute agony” because of possibly kidney stones.
Actor Steve, 40, uploaded a snap that appeared to show him in a hospital bed, as he was wearing a hospital gown. He didn’t show his face but did reveal his arm, which was wrapped in a large bandage.
The picture also showed a Penthrox inhaler resting on Steve’s lap. The handheld analgesic inhaler can give quick relief when someone is in pain.
“Please don’t cycle home drunk on Lime Bikes,” he urged in the caption of the snap. Steve didn’t share any further details about his injury or his accident.
But the star did reveal he hadn’t lost his sense of humour in the way he responded to a fan who messaged him about what happened. The person had said the celeb’s mishap made them think of a scene in People Just Do Nothing, where Steve’s alter ego was in an accident.
“This reminds me of in PJDN when u ran to the shop and got hit by a car,” they posted. Sharing the comment, Steve wrote: “Thanks for your kind messages.”
Steve is one of the creators and stars of BBC3’s People Just Do Nothing. It started in 2012 and became a bit hit, airing for five series.
Mockumentary style, it followed a bunch of friends running a pirate radio station called Kurupt FM. As well as Steve, the sitcom starred Allan Mustafa, Hugo Chegwin and Asim Chaudhry.
It was popular with viewers and also fared well when it came to awards, scooping Best Scripted Comedy at the Baftas. In 2021, a film follow up called People Just Do Nothing: Big in Japan was released.
It caught up with the Kurupt stars a few years after their station ended, with them all back in everyday jobs. However, their luck changes when they suddenly become big stars in Japan.
The show was recently part of the BBC’s Comic Relief fundraiser, as Asim’s character Chabuddy G was seen in a sketch with the Gladiators. He wanted to become a new Gladiator, picking the name Girth, Wind and Fire, and took on real Gladiator Bionic in Duel.
To everyone’s surprise, he did manage to knock the Gladiator off the platform in the funny sketch. But it was later revealed that he had cheated to do so and he was banned from the programme.
Steve also co-wrote and starred in the Channel 4 series The Curse, about a group of criminals in London. He also and wrote and appeared in Peacock on BBC Three, which followed a personal trainer going through an identity crisis. Steve’s other acting roles include Drunk History and Top Boy.
