Britain’s Got Talent viewers have fumed at the semi final format, branding it ‘unfair’, after a new Golden Buzzer twist was introduced for the semi finals shows
Britain’s Got Talent fans are up in arms over the new Golden Buzzer twist for the semi-finals, calling on show bosses to make an “urgent” change to the format.
The popular ITV talent show, which has been pulling in big ratings for 18 years, returned earlier this year with a fresh batch of hopefuls vying for the judges’ approval every Saturday.
This year, BGT has undergone a major revamp; the traditional format of airing live semi-finals back-to-back in a single week has been replaced by a new schedule that sees just one semi-final taking place each week, spread across five consecutive Saturdays.
Another new feature for 2025 is the introduction of a Golden Buzzer for the knockouts, allowing one judge per week to fast-track an act straight to the final.
By the start of Saturday’s show, four acts had already secured their places in the final, with eight more hoping to join them. Show hosts Ant and Dec revealed at the start of the live broadcast that it was Bruno Tonioli’s turn to wield the power of the Buzzer.
He chose to use it to send opera singer Jasmine Rice to the final following her breathtaking performance of Never Enough.
However, after witnessing Ping Pong Pang’s impressive dance performance and Electric Umbrella’s moving show-closing act, some viewers suggested that the Golden Buzzer should only be pressed after all acts have had a chance to perform, reports Chronicle Live.
One critic expressed their opinion on X, stating: “Really don’t understand the golden buzzer process. Surely it’s fairer to see all the acts, then pick who receives the golden buzzer.”
Another viewer concurred, posting: “The @BGT golden buzzer should only be given once all acts have performed! Let’s be fair!”
