Simon Cowell has admitted he believes magic is real.

The TV mogul is regularly wowed when he sees acts pull off amazing tricks on Britain’s Got Talent. Some are so impressive he is convinced they can’t be an illusion and something otherworldly must be happening.

He told the Daily Star Sunday: “I do believe in magic. There are a few magic acts we’ve seen for this year’s series that are just amazing. When you see what they do, you genuinely have to believe in magic. There is no other explanation for it. I watch the auditions back and I do believe in magic.”

Simon fears the acts will spark a fakery row. They’re so good that he reckons viewers will think they’ve had secret help from the judges.

He said: “We genuinely don’t know who’s coming on. But I know that when some of them air, people at home are going to be going, ‘The judges knew what was going on’.

“But I swear to God, we never have a clue. We are never in on it. You are sitting there and it just happens. And it is mind-blowing.”

The new series of Britain’s Got Talent continues on Saturday on ITV1, returning for its 18th series on Saturday with judges Cowell, Amanda Holden, singer Alesha Dixon and former Strictly judge Bruno Tonioli.

TV duo Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly return to host the show, with social media star and musician KSI joining the panel as a guest judge.

This week, Simon labelled his fellow judge Amanda as the “Britain’s Got Talent queen” and also revealed singer Cheryl turned down a judging role on the show.

Cowell said of 54-year-old TV and radio presenter Holden, who has been on the judging panel since the first series, that the secret to her BGT success is that she “loves the acts”.

He explained: “That’s her, she honestly loves it. You know, every time I talk to her it makes me laugh because I say, ‘you are loving this, aren’t you?’. Because there are days where I’m knackered and there’s still an hour to go.
