EXCLUSIVE: Comedian Donna Preston set the record straight on Chris Hughes and JoJo Siwa’s controversial friendship after weeks of speculation about a romance between the two
Donna Preston has set the record straight on Chris Hughes and JoJo Siwa.
The 38-year-old actress and comedian was a fan-favourite during her time in the Celebrity Big Brother house, where she was shacked up with Chris and JoJo as well as the likes of Mickey Rourke, Angellica Bell, and Chesney Hawkes. The star of Netflix’s The Sandman and ITV’s Hey Tracey! made it to the final of the show and finished fourth.
Chris, 32, and JoJo, 21, formed a strong friendship in the house which sparked criticism among fans. Many were left wondering if something romantic was happening between them after seeing their flirty chats and Chris tickle the singer’s back in bed. The rumours only grew when JoJo broke up with Kath at the CBB wrap party – and Chris and JoJo were spotted at a tennis club together.
However, Donna spoke exclusively to Daily Star about the duo at the BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday (May 11) – and made it clear they’re just friends, nothing more. Asked what she made of Chris and JoJo’s bond Donna said: “It’s a friendship, yeah?”
Asked if she felt the scrutiny Chris and JoJo have been getting was “unfair”, she said: “To be honest, I haven’t looked at anything online, and I’m being serious about that because I haven’t watched the show. I haven’t really looked at anything.
“I’ve come out of the house, kind of got back to reality, done my own things, being with my friends and family, and I haven’t really looked at anything.”
Donna revealed that there were a lot of unaired moments between her and close friend Danny that didn’t make the edit. Although hasn’t seen the episodes herself, she said Danny had watched some back and noticed some of their moments weren’t shown.
“I think Danny and I played a lot, because Danny’s seen a couple of episodes and he said a lot of things didn’t make the edit in that so maybe it was just me and him messing about and just having a good time. I don’t know. They’re filming for 24 hours and it’s a 47 minute episode.”
The Netflix star understood that not everything will end up being shown on TV and that certain storylines will dominate. Discussing the drama surrounding Hollywood star Mickey Rourke, she said: “I imagine the whole story of Mickey in the first week is huge so, you know, no-one had a chance really! But that’s okay, I had a great time in there! I met some great friends, and I’m chilled.”
JoJo herself has insisted her and the Love Island star have a “special” bond but are just friends – calling him her “friendship soulmate”. The Dance Moms star said she’s the “number one JoJo and Chris stan” and watches all of the fan-made edits of their sweet moments in the house.
She told Us Weekly: “Now, being on the outside of the ‘Big Brother’ house, I am the number one JoJo and Chris stan. Like, I see all the edits and I’m like, I wanna see more dancing, I wanna see more of what’s happening, I am the scroller on TikTok now. And so I understand why the people were enjoying it.
“What’s so special about Chris and I is that our bond is so genuine that neither of us care what people make of it. Because we know our genuine friendship and we know our bond. It’s a great little special friendship that we have. And I literally send him videos of us dancing all the time.”
