Actress and comedian Donna Preston reportedly didn’t want to do Celebrity Big Brother initially, her friends claim, but it’s said she later had a change of heart
Donna Preston reportedly didn’t want to enter the Celebrity Big Brother house at first.
Comedian and actress Donna, 38, has been opening up to her fellow CBB housemates, after they entered the house on Monday (April 7). Viewers watched her heart-wrenching conversation with Trisha Goddard about Trisha’s cancer treatment, ahead of the first live eviction on Friday night (April 11).
But it’s said the star, who has had jobs on ITV shows such as Hey Tracey and Celebrity Karaoke Club, wasn’t too hot on the idea of doing the show. Donna has been a regular on Big brother spin-off Late and Live, but it’s believed she had no interest in becoming a housemate herself.
Sources claim Donna felt the show, which films housemates for every minute of the day, would be “too exposing” for her. It seems she changed her mind.
Pals of the Good Omens actress were left shocked when Donna opted to go “out of her comfort zone” to go on the show. It’s believed Donna – who shot to fame while on Sky drama Brassic – has bagged £30k for her stint in the house.
A source close to the comedian said they were “really shocked” by Donna’s decision to do it, but insisted the star “couldn’t turn down” the money being offered up by ITV bosses.
“I was really shocked by Donna’s U-turn,” the insider told The Sun. “While she has been a regular guest on Late and Live, she has always said she wouldn’t be able to be a housemate as she would feel too exposed being in there.
“She obviously had a change of heart when she was offered the money and couldn’t turn down the payday, but this is definitely out of her comfort zone,” they added. “It’s hard for comedians to be “on” 24/7.”
However, despite the huge wad of cash Donna is set to be earning for her time in the house, it pales in comparison to some of her other housemates. Reports have found that Hollywood legend Mickey Rourke will bag £500k for the pleasure of going into the house, while JoJo Siwa has netted an eye-watering £400k.
Previously, Donna had said that she would not be a good housemate, explaining that “rude” people would “grate” on her. She went on to reveal how she would deal with conflict in the house.
“If I find that something is getting to me, I’ll move myself away from the situation,” Donna unveiled. “Everyone’s got their habits, I understand that; I’ll just spend my time in the bath.”
Outside of her comedy roles, Donna has been seen in a number of other blockbuster films and TV series. She has made several cameos in the likes of Coronation Street, The Sandman and even the Fantastic Beasts series, following on from the Harry Potter saga.
Celebrity Big Brother airs every Sunday to Friday at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
