Chris Brown remanded in custody for a month over nightclub GBH allegation

Chris Brown has been remanded into custody until June 13 after appearing in court of a charge of causing grievous bodily harm.

The American singer was arrested at the five-star Manchester hotel The Lowry early on Thursday morning (May 15). He had flown into the UK just hours earlier on Wednesday (May 14).

On Friday (May 16) he appeared at Manchester Magistrates’ Court. He spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and his address, which he gave as the Lowry Hotel.

He will next appear at Southwark Crown Court on June 13.

The alleged assault took place at London nightclub Tape on February 19, 2023. It’s alleged he assaulted music producer Abe Diaw.

Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London North, Adele Kelly, said: “We have authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Chris Brown with one count of grievous bodily harm, contrary to section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861.

“The alleged incident occurred in London on 19 February 2023.

“He will have his first court appearance on Friday 16 May at Manchester Magistrates’ Court.

“The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against this defendant are active and that he has the right to a fair trial.

“It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”

The arrest comes as Chris was preparing to head out on his Breezy Bowl XX tour.

He was due to kick things off in Amsterdam on June 8, before dates in Hamburg on June 11 and Frankfurt on June 13.

He is then scheduled for two performances in Manchester on June 15 and June 16 before another two on June 24 and July 3, as well as performances through June and July in Cardiff, London, Birmingham, Dublin and Glasgow, before a final performance in Paris on July 5.

It’s not clear how the tour will be affected, however with three of the dates falling within the date given in court, fans may have to prepare themselves for an announcement from Team Chris.
