Country music legend Johnny Rodriguez dies age 73 as his devastated family pay tribute to him.

The singer soared to fame with the classic tune Ridin’ My Thumb To Mexico.

Taking to Instagram to share the tough news, Johnny’s daughter Aubry stated that he died peacefully at home on May 9.

“It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Johnny Rodriguez, who left us peacefully on May 9th, surrounded by family,” she wrote.

“Dad was not only a legendary musician whose artistry touched millions around the world, but also a deeply loved husband, father, uncle, and brother whose warmth, humour, and compassion shaped the lives of all who knew him.”

She continued, expressing the irreplaceable loss felt by his family and requesting privacy in their time of grief, reports the Mirror.

The comments section beneath the post quickly filled with fans sharing their sorrow and cherished memories. A fan expressed their condolences: “Oh honey 🙁 I’m so sorry. I love you and I’m praying! ! !” While another recounted a fond experience: “He was always very kind to me. He left a great legacy.”

One heartbroken admirer penned: “The world lost a great one tonight. God Bless you all,” and yet another conveyed sympathy: “Sorry for yours and your families loss. Johnny was a great man.”

Johnny’s illustrious career was punctuated by chart-dominating hits such as ‘Pass Me By’, ‘I’m Not Up to Feelin’ Down Tonight’, and ‘You Always Come Back to Hurting Me’, his first country number one smash.

Renowned for his unique blend of Spanish lyrics with country tunes, the vocalist was a trailblazer in the 1970s music industry.

Another fan, grieving, said: “I am so sad to hear this and so very sorry for your loss. I will always be a fan of his music. Praying for you and your family.”
