Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers’ heartbroken wife Liliana has issued an emotional update just over a year after his death at the age of 66 following a cancer diagnosis
Dave Myers’ wife has shared a heartbreaking insight into life without the Hairy Bikers star.
The TV chef, who shot to fame with best mate Si King on their BBC cooking show, sadly died at the age of 66 in February last year following a battle with cancer. His devastated wife Liliana Orzac has now opened up about how she’s struggling without Dave around, just over a year after his passing.
Orzac, who very much still considers herself to be Dave’s wife rather than a widow, has issued an emotional update about the grief she’s experiencing. She admitted she thought about giving up when training on her motorbike before her instructor gave her some words of encouragement.
Liliana shared: “Three distinct experiences to report. I had my motorbike training yesterday and driving over there I was having thoughts of giving up.
“Because I’d made mistakes and wobbled before, and I did not want to waste anyone’s time on me. Mark, my instructor from Darbyshire motorcycle school, is the most caring person I met and he told me this. ‘Lil, you can’t just give up now. So many people are looking up on you as a model. You now have a voice’. Boommm… that opened my eyes.”
She added: “On my way back from practice, I turned on the radio and suddenly my vision blurred. I heard myself speaking about Dave Myers, my late husband, and his BSA motorbike that will be auctioned at the Birmingham National Motorcycle Museum on March 26.
“I was not expecting that at all. I’d had some interviews before but never heard myself talking on the national news. And today I had to pick pictures from my phone picture file to send off to editors of my book.
She proceeded to explain how she burst into tears while remembering Dave. “Literally went through thousands of pics with tears in my eyes,” Liliana said. “So many moments of joy, so many memories of happy times, and so many sad moments of pain and suffering.
“I thought I was in a good place, stable and safe with my grief contained. And no more tears. Yet these last days showed me different. Grief is not linear.”
Last month, Liliana revealed she has written a memoir in tribute of Dave, titled Dave and Me, life with and without my Hairy Biker. Announcing the new book, which will be released on June 19, she said: “This past year has been incredibly challenging for me on many levels!!! But guess what? I used all my creative side and honoured Dave by writing his story. Our story. “Today is the reveal!!!”.
Liliana, who tied the knot with Dave in 2011, first met the chef while he was making a TV series alongside his co-star Si in her native country of Romania. She was managing a hotel where Dave was staying and the pair went on to stay in touch via email – it seems the rest is history as before Liliana moved to Britain to be with him.
Orzac previously shared how she still speaks to Dave every day. ” “Do you know we were together for 17 years,” she said. “And in that time we never had the same meal twice. In the cupboard, I still have hundreds of jars of ingredients I don’t know how to use.
“I’m Dave’s wife. He’s still everywhere in our house. I talk to him all the time.”
Describing their home life, she said: “This was a man who was at his happiest around our table – in every house we lived in we had a huge table that seated around 10 or 12.
“He lit up a room anyway – the man burned with creativity, with interest in everyone – but his passion for life came through particularly when he was cooking for someone, for everyone. My husband served up love on a plate.”
