A Gavin & Stacey star has ditched her iconic look on set – as she’s due to appear in a Netflix drama inspired by a Harlan Coben novel. So can you recognise her?
For many in the UK, the name Ruth Jones is instantly synonymous with the iconic character “Nessa” from the beloved TV series Gavin and Stacey.
Given the show’s enduring popularity, especially following the series finale on Christmas Day, it’s perhaps no surprise that some fans were taken aback to catch a glimpse of her filming a new Netflix drama.
It appears Nessa has bid farewell to Barry Island for good, as footage has emerged on social media of Ruth working on the new series, Run Away.
In the images, the Welsh actress is seen sporting what looks like a forensic overall while strolling down a street in Liverpool. As fans spotted her, she couldn’t help but flash a smile and a friendly wave. However, her appearance was a far cry from her memorable portrayal of Nessa.
Gone were the leather jacket and boots that defined Nessa’s style. Instead, Ruth was rocking shoulder-length hair and glasses, making her almost unrecognisable as she prepared for this new role. The dramatic transformation left people stunned, but also excited to see her back in action.
Run Away is set to unravel another signature mystery from Harlan Coben. Production began earlier this year, with James Nesbitt known for his recent hit, Missing You also starring in the limited series.
James Nesbitt is set to take centre stage in a gripping new thriller, slipping into the role of Simon – a man whose world starts crumbling when his daughter Paige (played by Ellie de Lange) runs away from home. The eight-part series, which takes its story from Harlan’s book of the same name, promises to have viewers on the edge of their seats.
The plot thickens as Simon digs up dark secrets and realises he might just be able to rescue his daughter. But it’s not going to be a walk in the park – his quest is riddled with shocking twists that could shatter his family to bits.
James Nesbitt has a stellar cast backing him up – including Ruth Jones, Minnie Driver, Alfred Enoch, Lucian Msamati, among others. So it’s safe to say fans are excited!
One fan gushed: “This will be great, but I can’t forget Nessa.” Another chimed in with excitement: “I can’t wait to watch this, but Ruth Jones will always be Nessa Jenkins and Stella Morris to me.”
And a third fan couldn’t contain their enthusiasm, replying: “Well it’s destined to be brilliant with Ruth Jones and James Nesbitt in it. Can’t wait.”
