Eurovision presenter Graham Norton has revealed that he once had surgery after lying about feeling ill to his mother, who took him to the doctor and resulted in a very unnecessary operation
Graham Norton once had an operation he never needed.
The Eurovision presenter previously spoke about the incident on the TV show Unforgivable and explained: “When I was seven or eight, I didn’t want to go to school so I started saying: ‘Ow, I’ve got tummy ache.”
“So my mother said: ‘Fine, don’t go to school and we will go to the doctor’. The doctor’s examining me and I’m going: ‘Ow!’”
“I thought he was going to tell my mother there was nothing wrong with me and I was in such trouble, but he told me I had something called appendicitis and next week I’d be going to hospital to have my appendix out.”
Norton still didn’t confess and the operation went ahead while he was still deep in the lie.
The presenter laughed as he confessed: “I then thought I was really f***** because either I have an operation I don’t need or I tell the doctor there’s nothing wrong with me and there will be two very angry adults. So I had the operation!”
The TV legend also revealed that he had only recently told his mother what had happened, no doubt much to her surprise.
The Eurovision host recently attended the BAFTA Awards wearing a black sling and has since explained that he recently underwent surgery.
Norton is also reportedly on medication to help with the pain. While on Scott Mills’ Breakfast Show he said: “This is my left shoulder’s first appearance on radio, (it’s) a brand new shoulder. It’s less than two weeks old.”
“It feels a bit new, it’s a little owie (painful), but forgive me, I’m on many, many medications right now, so if I say anything bad, it’s not my fault!”
