Netflix’s newest docuseries follows a pair of the most disturbing serial killers the UK has ever seen as the streaming service delves deeper into their crimes
Britain’s most notorious pair of serial killers will be examined as part of an in depth new documentary.
Fred and Rose West: A British Horror Story will air on Netflix in a three part special series looking into the grisly murders they carried out. The new documentary series will feature unseen footage and audio tapes of the killers, and will include interviews with some of the victims’ families and people who knew them.
Rose was convicted of nine murders, while Fred is believed to have killed at least 12 people including the pair’s eldest daughter Heather, then 17, and Fred West’s eight-year-old stepdaughter, Charmaine.
Many of the bodies were discovered under builder Fred’s garden at their home in Cromwell Street, Gloucester. He killed himself while on remand on New Year’s Day 1995.
The three-part show will feature family members speaking for the first time ever about the horror they experienced at the hands of the evil pair.
It will look into exactly how they ended up being caught while focusing on how police managed to unearthed the remains of the couple’s victims to collect evidence against them and ultimately convict them.
Director Dan Dewsbury said: “Making this series has been a huge undertaking for our team. Getting access to never before seen video, never before heard tapes, access to people who have never previously spoken about the case, whilst also balancing the sensitivities of the families, after decades of quiet heartbreak and strength, has been inspiring to be part of.”
It follows in the footsteps of the 2022’s Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story, the hit docuseries about the appalling sexual abuse crimes of the former TV presenter.
Netflix released the trailer this week for the show, which will be available from 14 May.
Elsewhere in Netflix news, the streamer is offering fans the chance to steal a real nine carat diamond – but there’s a catch.
The stone, which could reportedly fetch up to £750,000, was placed on a billboard on Clapham High Street to promote their new docuseries The Diamond Heist.
The show follows the attempted robbery of the world’s second biggest diamond back in 2000 and will be co-produced by Guy Ritchie.
A Netflix spokesperson addressed the stunt and said: “The billboard debuted this morning on Clapham High Street with the 9-carat diamond affixed to the billboard in a specially lit display case.”
“But those with itchy fingers may want to divert any devious plans, as the billboard is being surveilled with CCTV cameras and two onsite security guards.”
