Security has been ramped up at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles as it’s reported that Kamala Harris is set to make a surprise appearance at the prestigious awards ceremony tonight
Kamala Harris is set to cause a stir with a surprise appearance at tonight’s Oscar Awards.
The ex-Vice President’s unexpected drop-in has reportedly thrown a spanner in the works for security teams. Currently it is believed that she might grace the event, but it’s still up in the air if she’ll be handing out an Academy Award.
Tonight’s Oscars will tip their hats to the brave souls who tackled the wildfires that ravaged Los Angeles homes earlier this year. Some of the first responders have already arrived to the coveted red carpet. Harris, once a Democrat senator for California, is rumoured to be spearheading the tribute to the catastrophic blazes.
Hollywood insiders say security at the Dolby Theatre has been cranked up, with sniffer dogs and a fleet of black minibuses packed with security was spotted heading into the venue.
A federal official working the star-studded bash told Deadline: “We live in a new evolving security environment. The expected attendance of the former vice president is a major factor in the added security.”
Meanwhile, executive producer and showrunner Raj Kapoor told AP that the night will be packed with touching moments.
He said: “If you love the movies, like come to the Oscars and maybe you’ll discover things that you actually have not seen yet but will want to. Hopefully you’ll fall in love even with a few pictures while watching the show.”
Executive producer Katy Mullan chimed in on the excitement, revealing: “We’ve got some reunions that I think will hit people in the heart.”
Conan O’Brien is set to lead the awards ceremony as host for the very first time. Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy president Janet Yang said they felt “thrilled and honoured” that the “incomparable” O’Brien had accepted the role. Yang said Conan is the “perfect” choice because of his “brilliant humour, his love of movies, his live TV expertise, and remarkable ability to connect with audiences”. The academy hoped Conan will draw viewers in to “honour the spectacular films and filmmakers of this year”.
With talk show star O’Brien stepping into the role previously held by Jimmy Kimmel for two years, fans can also look forward to Amelia Dimoldenberg bringing her interviewing flair to the red carpet event, reports the Mirror.
