An iconic 90s rock star and former guitarist has shared a shocking health update with fans and posted a grim picture after announcing his retirement last year
One 90s rock icon has lost two vital body parts.
Chris Burney, ex-guitarist for Bowling For Soup, has recently revealed that he is now missing two toes. This shocking news comes after Chris announced his permanent retirement last summer.
While he didn’t go into detail about how he lost his toes, the musician did share a startling photo of his foot without the digits. “I’m a Free-nubbin, butt-rubbin son of a gun,” the musician joked in his post, also sharing a cheeky selfie of himself lounging on his sofa with his tongue out.
It’s believed that Chris suffered a leg injury which led him to take a break from the band to focus on his recovery. His absence was felt at the 2024 Download Festival, where Bowling For Soup had to perform as a trio without him.
Earlier this year, The Sun confirmed that Chris would not be part of the line-up for the band’s UK 20th anniversary tour, A Hangover You Don’t Deserve. “To All Our Amazing Bowling For Soup Fans… It is with a heavy heart we announce that Chris Burney has made the decision to retire from his stage-right post in the band he co-founded in 1994,” the band shared in an emotional social media announcement.
“Some recent medical developments, 30 years of rocking balls and touring non-stop have made it difficult to continue,” reports the Express.
The band has come out with a show of solidarity for their departing mate, saying: “We are bummed to not have Chris by our sides, but absolutely support his decision. The three of us will carry on, with Chris’ blessing, and continue to build the legacy of this band we all love so much.”
They firmly ruled out finding a substitute for Chris, declaring: “You cannot replace a legend,” and stressing their fraternal ties: “We were brothers when we started this journey… and brothers we remain.”
