Love Island bosses confirm axed star will be replaced after launch show chaos

Kyle Ashman was meant to appear on the new series of Love Island, but it was later revealed that he’d been removed from the ITV2 show following a police incident

Love Island bosses are seeking to replace Kyle Ashman on the latest series.

The 23-year-old from Stafford was part of the line-up for the new season, which kicks off on Monday (June 9). However, he has been dramatically axed from the ITV2 show just days before the launch after it emerged he had been arrested over a machete attack – and later released with no further action.

ITV said Kyle had chosen to leave the show, and he has since spoken out about the incident. He told MailOnline: “I fully cooperated with this police investigation and made it very clear that I had no involvement in this incident.

The water operative added: “I am not a violent person and any suggestion otherwise is a mischaracterisation.” It’s said ITV are looking to replace Kyle with another singleton on the show.

A source told The Sun: “It looks like bosses will be replacing him. There are a lot of moving parts but once it’s all finalized they will make an announcement about who is taking his place.”

An ITV spokesman confirmed Kyle wouldn’t appear on the show on Tuesday (June 3). They said: “For personal reasons, Kyle will not be entering the Love Island Villa as planned.”

It had been reported that Love Island bosses had found out Kyle was arrested on suspicion of a machete attack in February. He was one of two quizzed about the attack but released with no further action.

The attack saw a 38-year-old victim, a dad, almost lose an arm. They were rushed to hospital for emergency treatment and kept in for around two weeks.

It is not suggested that Kyle was involved in the attack. Police told the publication that after the matter had been investigated the pair were released with no further action.

It’s believed ITV were unaware of the incident and that he was not not flagged as part of contestant checks. A source told The Sun: “This was a horrific attack which could have been even worse. Ashman may have signed up to one of the biggest shows on TV with this hanging over his head.”

Kyle previously told ITV that he was looking for “someone that’s fun, confident and just themselves” during his stint on Love Island. Asked if host Maya Jama would hire or fire him on his flirting skills alone, Kyle said: “I’d say I’d be hired.

He added: “I just go with it, find something to compliment a girl on and go from there.”

Love Island returns Monday, June 9 at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
