Hollywood is gearing up for the Met Gala, fashion’s biggest night of the year, and the event is taking place on the same day that rapper P Diddy’s trial begins
P Diddy’s trial begins on the same day as the Met Gala.
The star-studded event is known as the biggest night in Hollywood as A-list faces prepare to take to the red carpet in some of the wildest suits, dresses and costumes the world has ever seen.
Confirmed celebrities on the guest list include Deochii, Ayo Edebiri, Tyla, Hailey Bieber and Usher among many others.
The 2025 Met Gala theme is Superfine: Tailoring Black Style and Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and LeBron James are all serving as co-chairs.
All eyes will be on the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City as the world prepares to catch a glimpse at what this year’s guests will wear, but the day has a bittersweet taste as rapper P Diddy’s trial will also begin.
The I’ll Be Missing You star has previously attended the Met Gala but this year will be very different, as he is currently being held in the Metropolitan Detention Centre.
His trial begins with jury selection on Monday 5 May in Manhattan, while the hearings are expected to start on 12 May.
It is possible that the selection process could take the rest of the week as potential jurors are screened.
Diddy was arrested on 16 September 2024 and charged with racketeering conspiracy, two charges of sex trafficking and two charges of transportation to engage in prostitution. He has been accused of kidnapping, drugging and coercing women into sexual activities.
Diddy, real name Sean Combs, has denied all of the allegations made against him. His lawyer told the BBC: “Mr Combs and his legal team have full confidence in the facts and the integrity of the judicial process.”
“In court, the truth will prevail: that Mr Combs never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone – man or woman, adult or minor.”
Combs is also facing dozens of individual lawsuits from people who have claimed that the rapper drugged, raped or assaulted them and intimidated them to keep quiet.
