An earthquake has hit Los Angeles just minutes hours after the Oscars ceremony – as Hollywood A-listers gathered at afterparties.

Glitzy backdrops at Vanity Fair’s red carpet bash were seen to be shaking after the 3.9-magnitude tremor hit the city at around 10.13pm local time (6.13am GMT), the Mirror reports.

Stars likes Elton John, Demi Moore and Kim Kardashian were among those partying at events at the time. Chappell Roan was onstage performing at the 33rd Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards viewing party when the quake hit, it was reported.

And those attending the Governors Ball, the exclusive party after the Academy Awards, were said to have felt the quake, the Hollywood Reporter said.

The quake struck about 10 miles northwest of LA in North Hollywood and had a depth of 15.3 kilometres (9.5 miles), just hours after celebrities poured out of the Dolby Theater in Hollywood for the 97th Academy Awards.

There have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries so far.

The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed the earthquake was felt in downtown LA, and wrote on social media: “At this time, LAFD is not entering earthquake mode.”

Locals were urged to remain prepared and stay tuned for further information amid fears of aftershocks in the region.

Anora was the night’s big winner, taking home five awards, including best picture, Best Leading Actress and Best Director.

The film follows the wild story of a sex worker, played by Mikey Madison, who marries the son of a Russian oligarch, whose family disapproves of the union.
