RuPaul’s Drag Race legend Jiggly Caliente has had most of her right leg amputated, with her family revealing she has suffered a ‘serious health setback’ in recent weeks
RuPaul’s Drag Race icon Jiggly Caliente has had her leg amputated, her family has announced.
The drag performer, whose real name is Bianca Castro, shot to stardom on season four of the US reality show. She came 8th but secured herself as a fan-favourite, returned for All Stars 6, and eventually landed a judging role on Drag Race Philippines from 2022.
However her family has now confirmed she will not be on the next season of the show after a “heartbreaking” health battle. It follows the tragic death of Drag Race UK winner The Vivienne earlier this year.
On Instagram, they shared a statement which read: “The family of Bianca Castro, known to many as the beloved drag performer Jiggly Caliente, is heartbroken to share that over the last month Bianca has experienced a serious health setback. Due to a severe infection, she was hospitalised and, as a result, has undergone the loss of most of her right leg.
“Because of these circumstances, Bianca will not be appearing in the upcoming season of RuPaul’s Drag Race Philippines, nor will she be participating in any public engagements for the foreseeable future. Her recovery will be extensive.“At this time, we kindly ask for privacy for Bianca and her family as they navigate this difficult journey together.
“While Jiggly concentrates on healing, we invite her friends, fans, and community to uplift her with messages of hope and love on her social media channels.
“Bianca’s family and drag house are deeply grateful for the continued outpouring of support, strength, and prayers.”
Jiggly’s co-stars and fans were quick to send their support. Season three queen Manila Luzon wrote: “Praying for you, sister.”
Aja, who was announced for All Stars 10 this week, said: “Sending you love and healing vibrations.” Season two star and All Stars 6 winner Kylie Sonique Love wrote: “I love you so much girl. Thinking of you.”
Season three winner Raja said: “Love you sister.” Season two icon Jujubee said: “I love you so much. Can’t wait to see you again.”
Drag Race France host Nicky Doll said: “Praying darling, get well soon.” And Drag Race UK star Kitty Scott Claus left a string of heart emojis.
After finding popularity on Drag Race in 2011, Jiggly, who came out as trans in 2016, has appeared as Veronica on the series Pose and has been a backing dancer for pop stars like Miley Cyrus and Christina Aguilera.
