Second Love Island 2025 star quizzed by cops over stolen phone on night out

Love Island 2025 star Dejon Noel-Williams, who is set to star in the new series of the ITV2 dating show in just a few days, wasn’t arrested but spoke to the police voluntarily

Another Love Island star was questioned by police before their villa stint.

It was recently revealed Kyle Ashman, 23, was axed from this year’s Love Island series after it emerged he had been arrested over a machete attack – and later released with no further action. ITV have replaced him with rugby hunk Conor ahead of the launch, which airs on Monday (June 9) at 9pm.

It’s now been revealed a second Islander was questioned by police after being accused of stealing a phone on a night out. Semi-pro footballer Dejon Noel-Williams answered questions for police “voluntarily” after a woman’s mobile was taken in London.

According to The Sun, he was also released with no further action. He spoke with police alongside Kettering FC footballer Harlain Mbayo, who was ordered to carry out a community resolution, which can involve an apology or compensation.

Dejon said he was never arrested over the incident and spoke to the police voluntarily. He said: “I voluntarily spoke to the police to clarify the truth about what happened in this incident, with no further action taken.

He added: “To stress, my intentions here were entirely honourable and it is very upsetting to read claims that suggest otherwise.”

An ITV spokesperson confirmed they were aware of the incident when he secured his place on Love Island. The channel added: “We speak to our Islanders in advance of the show in addition to rigorous background screening, including DBS checks.”

The Met Police said: “On March 16 at 04:05hrs officers responded to a report of a robbery in which a phone was taken. An investigation was launched and two men voluntarily took part in interviews.

“The victim’s phone was recovered and has been returned. No further action was taken against the 26-year-old man.” It’s said the dispute was sparked over payment for food and an Uber taxi ride.

An ITV spokesman confirmed Kyle wouldn’t appear on the show on Tuesday (June 3). They said: “For personal reasons, Kyle will not be entering the Love Island Villa as planned.”

It had been reported that Love Island bosses had found out Kyle was arrested on suspicion of a machete attack in February. He was one of two quizzed about the attack but released with no further action.

The attack saw a 38-year-old victim, a dad, almost lose an arm. They were rushed to hospital for emergency treatment and kept in for around two weeks.

It is not suggested that Kyle was involved in the attack. Police told the publication that after the matter had been investigated the pair were released with no further action.

It’s believed ITV were unaware of the incident and that he was not not flagged as part of contestant checks. A source told The Sun: “This was a horrific attack which could have been even worse. Ashman may have signed up to one of the biggest shows on TV with this hanging over his head.”

Love Island returns Monday, June 9 at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
