EXCLUSIVE: Strictly Come Dancing favourite Vito Coppola, who won the BBC show in 2023 with Ellie Leach, has opened up about how long he plans to stay in the BBC ballroom
Vito Coppola has discussed his future as a professional on Strictly Come Dancing.
The 32-year-old dancer became a Strictly pro in 2022 and has become a fan favourite ever since. He won the BBC One show in 2023 with Corrie star Ellie Leach, who revealed how much Vito means to her as a friend.
Vito spoke to Daily Star at the BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday (May 11), where he revealed his Strictly cohort were his “second family”. It would appear the Italian hunk has no plans on hanging up his dancing shoes anytime soon as he’s loving his time in the ballroom.
Asked how long he sees himself doing the show, he said: “I cannot predict it, because it depends on the reason. This is the first time I am living so far from my family, they are in Italy. I have found Strictly to be like a second family, this is why I feel at home here. I love this country.”
The dancer revealed he doesn’t know what tricks the producers have up their sleeves just yet. “We don’t know anything,” Vito said. “So they keep the surprise, even for us dancers and all the judges. So basically, I am as curious as much as you are to see if there is [something new].
“They always bring something new, you know, some new sparkle every year. I always think. ‘Oh, this is the best one [series]’ and after the next year, there is something that makes it even better. I’m very excited, very curious, very looking forward to it.”
Vito said he and Dianne Buswell are getting ready for their brand new dancing show – Red Hot and Ready – which is touring the UK and kicks off on June 11th. Discussing the show, he said: “For now I am getting ready with Diane and I am excited about that [the show] as well.
“We are starting next week with all the cast. We are waiting because we’ve got all the dancers from Australia, we have someone coming from Broadway, so we are uniting all of them!”
Vito has already done Celebrity MasterChef – he won the series last year. Asked if he’d like to take part in any other reality shows, Vito said: “I am super happy now and whatever comes next, it comes, and I will be open to doing it.”
A description for Vito and Dianne’s upcoming show read: “The show brings together Strictly Come Dancing stars Dianne and Vito, with their incredible ability to deliver show-stopping performances, and a cast of multi-disciplined Burn the Floor dancers from around the world who are nothing short of spectacular, as well as sensational vocalists and live band.
“Red Hot and Ready is the ultimate high-voltage dance extravaganza, exploding with jaw-dropping choreography, heart-pounding music and breath-taking moves, from seriously sexy to irresistibly charming, and celebrating the pure joy of dance.”
The show kicks off at Shrewsbury’s Theatre Severn on June 11 and includes a date at London’s Shaftesbury Theatre.
