As the Love Island villa prepares to open its doors for another summer of romance, here’s a look back at the last winning couple
Maya Jama is set to play cupid for a fresh crop of love-seekers this summer in the upcoming season of Love Island.
While ITV hasn’t officially announced the launch date for the 12th series of the popular reality show, past seasons have typically kicked off in early June. Given that last year’s edition started on June 3, fans are speculating that the show could return either on June 2 or June 9.
With the new season just around the corner, let’s catch up with where the previous winners are now and get the scoop on their current relationship status.
The latest season saw Mimii Ngulube and Josh Oyinsan clinch the title, along with a cool £50,000 prize money, reports OK!.
Mimii, 24, initially paired up with Ayo Odukoya. However, when Ayo came back from Casa Amor with newcomer Jess Spencer, she had to choose a new partner.
Despite only coupling up a few weeks before the finale, Josh and Mimii made Love Island history as the first black couple to win the show, beating fan favourites Nicole Samuel and Ciaran Davies.
How did they splash the cash prize?
After their ground-breaking victory, the duo decided to split the winnings equally. In a chat with Closer Magazine, Josh disclosed his plans to invest his half of the prize money.
“I’m all about saving, investing and planning for the future, so that is where I’ll be spending, well, keeping my money. [My] mum might get a little holiday, of course, but apart from that I’m just living the same way I was living before I had it,” he said.
In the same conversation, which was shared on the magazine’s TikTok, Mimii mirrored his sentiments, saying: “Yeah, me too. Investing [and] treating my family because they deserve it.”
Are Mimii and Josh still together?
The Love Island couple announced their split in September 2024. Mimii took to Instagram to post a statement, unveiling that the pair had been “trying to work things out” after their victory on the show.
But she candidly admitted that “things aren’t going to work out between us right now.”
Fans were gobsmacked by the split news, although some still believed they were deserving winners.
Who are they dating now?
As for current flames, Mimii recently set the record straight about her single status on X, previously Twitter. Amidst rumours of rekindling an old flame with Ayo, she clapped back with a post declaring “as for now, I am single. I am not dating anyone, next.”
She dropped a clear boundary stating her next beau is nobody’s business until she broadcasts it herself.
For the time being, the reality TV starlet hasn’t spilled any tea regarding new romance in her life.
Meanwhile, Josh is in a relationship with R&B singer Jaz Karis. The couple made their relationship official with an Instagram post in February, following a romantic trip to Paris.
Since then, they have consistently posted pictures and videos together on social media. Jaz recently disclosed that she has already been introduced to the semi-professional footballer’s family.
