Burning Man Festival to Go Virtual as 2020 Event Is Axed Due to Covid-19 OutbreakWENN

The annual festivity in the Nevada desert is expected to go online for the 2020 event after the gig is called off by organizers due to the coronavirus pandemic.

AceShowbiz – The 2020 Burning Man festival has been cancelled due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

The annual gathering of artists and tech enthusiasts in the Nevada desert, which was due to take place from August 30 to September 7, 2020 and culminates with the burning of a wicker man effigy, was due to take place later this year but will instead go totally virtual for the first time ever amid the global Covid-19 pandemic.

CEO Marian Goodell explained the decision in a video message, telling fans, “After much listening, discussion, and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision not to build Black Rock City in 2020.”

“Given the painful reality of COVID-19, one of the greatest global challenges of our lifetimes, we believe this is the right thing to do.”

She continued, “Yes, we are heartbroken. We know you are too. In 2020 we need human connection and Immediacy more than ever. But public health and the well-being of our participants, staff, and neighbours in Nevada are our highest priorities.”

Explaining the new online format for the event, dubbed The Multiverse, Goodell said, “We look forward to welcoming you to Virtual Black Rock City 2020.”

“We’re not sure how it’s going to come out; it will likely be messy and awkward with mistakes. It will also likely be engaging, connective, and fun.”

Refunds are available for those who purchased tickets, with the organisation encouraging fans to donate a percentage of the money back to the company.
