Piers Morgan's GMB replacement confirmed as he drops out amid coronavirus fears

Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan ‘s replacement has been announced after he confirmed on social media that he is being tested for coronavirus after showing symptoms, and won’t be on the show tomorrow.

Piers is yet to reveal what symptoms he is showing, and will be away from the show for two weeks if he tests positive.

He revealed earlier this month that his 19-year-old son Albert had shown symptoms, losing his sense of taste and smell, but had recovered.

ITV have confirmed to the Sun Online that Friday presenter Ben Shephard will be replacing Piers tomorrow, presenting alongside Susanna Reid.

Piers posted on social media: “UPDATE: On medical advice, and out of an abundance of caution for a mild symptom that arose in past 48hrs, I’ve had a test for COVID-19 and so won’t be working on @GMB until I get the result back, which should be tomorrow.”

Ben presents the show every day, usually with Charlotte Hawkins or Kate Garraway, whose husband Derek Draper is seriously ill with coronavirus.

He has been sharing updates from Kate every week, as he told viewers that Derek is still critically ill and in a coma.

On Friday he said: “Lots of you, as ever, getting in touch with me asking for an update and how Derek’s getting on.

“She (Kate) posted on Instagram she, Darcey and Billy were out last night applauding our carers and she wrote: ‘So grateful too for our amazing #nhs doing so much for Derek everyday – wonderful to see all the support for them & our key workers every Thursday.

“We can’t thank them enough can we ? So brave.

Ben has also revealed that he also has family members who are “very ill” with coronavirus, saying on the show: “I’ve got family members who are very ill at the moment as well and people that I know and friends who have lost friends and family.

“It doesn’t get any less painful.”

GMB continues tomorrow at 6am on ITV.
