Ben Shephard shuts down 'smug' Tipping Point contestant as viewers fume

Tipping Point fans branded one unfortunate player as “smug” on today’s show, when he managed to eliminate another contestant by passing on several questions.

Player Steve decided to opt to “pass” on a number of quiz questions, forcing contestant Jean to answer the queries instead.

Ben Shephard was quick to call him out on the repeated passes, sarcastically suggesting he was being “generous” in choosing to dodge the questions.

He said: “He’s being very generous Jean, passing to you a lot.”

Player Jean was clearly tired of it, as she snapped: “Is that generous?”

Ben was quick to realise Steve had employed an unfair tactic

Jean was quickly knocked out of the competition, as the quickfire questions left her with barely any cash in the kitty.

Taking to Twitter, viewers were left raging over Steve’s decision to pass on a number of questions, feeling it was an unfair tactic.

One fumed: “Passing to Jean again! #tippingpoint

“Steve only passing so he can smugly answer more questions #tippingpoint,” added a second.

Contestant Steve was eliminated in the semi-final, leaving Michael to fight for the jackpot

And a third chimed: “I don’t understand people who pass in the second round on.”

While a fourth angry fan vented: “Steve = smug.”

After Jane was eliminated, Steve was next in the firing line, as final contestant Michael managed to beat him by £50.

Ben consoled: “Hard luck Steve, that means Michael is our winner.”

Accepting his defeat graciously, Steve replied: “Thank you Ben, I’ve had a lovely day.”

Squaring up in the hopes of winning the jackpot, Michael revealed he planned to spend his earnings on a blowout holiday to the US.

Celebrating his 30th birthday, the Tipping Point hopeful explained he wanted to win enough cash for a jazzy trip to Las Vegas.

A gentleman, Michael added his girlfriend would be invited along too if she “behaves herself” – leaving Ben cracking up in fits of laughter.

Tipping Point airs on weekdays at 4pm on ITV.
