Coronation Street's Leanne devastated as Oliver's tragic death approaches

Coronation Street fans are set for some heartbreaking scenes next week when Leanne Tilsley (Jane Danson) is forced to face the inevitable death of her son Oliver.

She has been fighting to get him treated by specialists but has repeatedly been told that the little lad’s chances of survival aren’t getting any better.

But next week, Coronation Street spoilers reveal even Oliver’s dad Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) accepts that they need to let him go.

The week gets off to a hellish start as they go to court and discover Wendy has taken Dr Howarth’s side, while Dr Howarth says it would be an act of kindness to turn off Oliver’s life support.

Leanne sinks a bottle of wine and suggests Steve take her to bed, causing her to break down when Tracy (Kate Ford) confronts her about it.

When it’s Steve and Leanne’s turn in court, she gives evidence and says that Oliver reacts to certain stimuli.

But when a barrister suggests his reactions are involuntary, Leanne is backed in a corner and forced to admit that’s possible, saying she just wants to save her son.

Steve urges the judge to give Oliver more time in case they one day find a cure.

After the hearing, Steve and Leanne are left completely emotionally drained.

Leanne goes to the hospital and is furious to find Nick (Ben Price) there by Oliver’s bed side.

As the week comes to a close, Leanne and Steve prepare to hear the judge’s decision regarding Oliver.

Their families gather at No1 and wait for the life-changing news.

Steve and Leanne are stunned to silence as the judge gives her decision.

She tells them that it is in Oliver’s best interests that his life support is withdrawn.

In hospital, Toyah (Georgia Taylor) gets a call from a devastated Leanne, while Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brian) struggles to hold back her tears.

Leanne announces that she wants to launch an appeal, and while Steve agrees, it’s clear he’s not completely convinced.

They go back to the hospital and go straight to Oliver’s room.

And it’s there that Leanne is left feeling betrayed as Steve finally tells her they need to let Oliver go, and he can’t support her decision to launch an appeal.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV
