EastEnders Jake Wood slams 'cretin' imposter for scamming his fans as him online

EastEnders actor Jake Wood has sent a warning to his fans after being caught up in an online fraud.

A Twitter profile has been set up by an imposter pretending to be the soap star.

And Jake, 48, was left furious after discovering the account had been sending out private messages to his army of adoring followers.

Jake, who plays Max Branning in the BBC One soap, urged everyone to report the bogus profile in a bid to get it removed.

The star said: “It has just come to my attention that this cretin is messaging a lot of my followers pretending to be me. Please report and block him.”

Jake, who recently filmed his final scenes on Albert Square after nearly 16 years, is the latest celeb to be targeted by web fraudsters.

Gogglebox star Sophie Sandiford warned her followers last month of another fake account that was set up to impersonate her.

Sophie, 24, who appears on the Channel 4 show alongside her brother Pete in Blackpool, apologised to anyone who had received bogus messages claiming to be from her.

She wrote: “Sorry if anyone has been receiving messages from a fake account this evening.

“Thankfully I think the account has been taken down.”

Coronation Street actor Alan Halsall, 38, was left raging in 2018 after someone set up a string of fake profiles in a bid to contact his female followers.

The actor, who plays Tyrone Dobbs in the ITV soap, was alerted to the con by a fan.

He tweeted at the time: “No idea why there’s now several fake accounts of me all in one day ??

“So weird !! ?? their life must be s*** if there best option is to imitate ME.”

Meanwhile, Jake is set to bow out of his role of Max Branning after joining the soap back in 2006.

The star has already filmed his last scenes and will be waving goodbye to Albert Square very soon.

EastEnders continues tonight at 7.30pm on BBC.
