Saturday Kitchen's Matt Tebbutt left red-faced after swearing live on air

Saturday Kitchen presenter Matt Tebbutt appeared to be caught off guard as some strong language was broadcast at the start of the programme this weekend.

Just after the continuity announcer had finished introducing the BBC One cooking programme, his voice could be heard before the Saturday Kitchen credits appeared on screen.

The 47-year-old appeared to say: “Bloody hell Murray, that’s miles away.”

Immediately after the comment was broadcast the programme’s theme music began to play and Matt began to address viewers.

“Good morning, we are on a mission to brighten your day with some delicious company and fabulous food,” he said.

However, the incident didn’t go unnoticed and amused some viewers on social media.

One Twitter user said: “Yes guys we heard the fruity language about something being a distance away… The perils of live TV, love it.”

Another added: “Perils of live television, you should always assume the mic is live even when not in vision.”

A third viewer tweeted: “I thought it was Mary not Murray! There I was sitting there thinking ‘Who’s bloody Mary?’ Very funny – could have been a lot worse!”

It’s believed that Matt was speaking to a crew member about how far away the autocue was from him, which made it difficult for him to read the small text.

A crew member could be heard reminding him that his mic was live immediately after his comment, with him then continuing on with the introduction to the show as normal.

Later on in the episode, Matt apologised for the little blip, though it seems he had nothing to worry about as viewers had found it quite funny.

Saturday’s episode featured comedian Ed Gamble alongside food writer Shivi Ramoutar, chef Tom Brown and wine expert Helen McGinn.

Matt became a permanent presenter on Saturday Kitchen Live back in 2017.

The chef attended Leiths School of Food and Wine and trained with renowned chef Marco Pierre White.
