Faye Brookes is in the best shape of her life thanks to Dancing on Ice training

Former Coronation Street beauty Faye Brookes has revealed she’s in the best shape of her life ahead of her Dancing on Ice debut this weekend.

The 33-year-old actress will take to the ice with her professional partner Hamish Gaman for the first time on Sunday evening during the second episode of the current series.

Six famous faces took to the ice last weekend, and now Faye, Myleene Klass, Billie Shepherd, Graham Bell, Colin Jackson and Sonny Jay are ready to make their mark on the competition.

Speaking ahead of her first solo skate with Hamish in front of the nation, Faye told Daily Star and other press: “I think the six couples who skated last weekend have definitely set the bar. So we’ve either got to match it or surpass it.

“The relief on all their faces on Sunday was a picture so I just can’t wait to actually go out there and do it.

“They did a great first live show to kick off the series. It was incredible.”

Faye, best known for playing Kate Connor in Corrie, went on to reveal that the gruelling training sessions have helped her stay in shape as the country remains in lockdown.

“We’re so lucky to be doing this job which is giving me all these wonderful memories and challenges ahead, she said.

“How great that I can challenge my body and mind so I can really feel good about myself.

“I’m using muscles that I’ve never used before and I love to keep fit, love to train and I love to dance.

“I also like doing different classes and home workouts but this is so challenging.”

Faye, who used to be married to Pop Idol star Gareth Gates, continued: “The good side to it all is that I am keeping in shape.

“I’m in the best shape I’ve been in for a while because I’m being challenged mentally and physically.”

Despite enjoying the physical aspect, Faye has been involved in some minor tumbles on the ice.

She explained: “I’ve been quite lucky with injuries but I do fall everyday of training.

“I’m having to buy a tube of Arnica cream every week because I’ve got so many bruises from little falls.

“We’re usually our bodies in different ways and we’re being challenged like no other.

“I suppose we have to take a few tumbles to get through the competition but I think the adrenaline gets you through it.

“I’m also making sure I’m looking after my body when I have down time so for the next day I’m prepared to go again.”

Faye quit Coronation Street back in April 2019 but her former colleagues have bombarded the soap siren with messages of support ahead of her first skate.

She said: “There’s quite a few of the Corrie girls who have taken part in the show and they’ve wished me luck.

“They know what its like to do the show and how it is and just the fact its live every Sunday.

“They’ve sent so many encouraging and supportive messages and I’ve got a few of my old friends telling me ‘please don’t fall’.

“Jane Danson [who plans Leanne Battersby in the ITV soap and took part in Dancing on Ice in 2019] gave me the best advice because, like myself, she completing fell in love with ice-skating and she’s kept it up ever since she left the show.

“She saw me at the rink and she told me to keep doing it and enjoy every second of it because you don’t know when it will be your last skate.”

Dancing on Ice continues on ITV on Sunday at 6pm
