Nick Kamen's partner shares model's final moments with heartbreaking tribute

Model Nick Kamen’s long term partner Lucinda Carey has revealed Nick’s final moments – saying he died with “dignity and respect”.

This comes after the Essex-born star tragically passed away at the age of 59 on Tuesday (4 May) at his home in Notting Hill, London following a battle with bone marrow cancer.

The singer and model rose to fame for his work with superstar Madonna, who spotted Nick after he appeared in an advert for denim-brand Levi’s in the 1980s.

Queen of Pop Madonna then wrote him a hit song, Each Time You Break My Heart, which he released in 1986, and Madonna even featured on the track herself.

Now, in a delicate tribute, Nick’s partner Lucinda has shared his final moments, and she announced to the MailOnline: “It was beautiful and incredibly gentle.

She commented: “Nick was an incredible person, and it was really inspiring to be around him during his illness.

“There has been a lot of joy and hardship over the past three years and he could not have lived with more respect and dignity.”

Lucinda revealed that Nick was diagnosed with terminal cancer three years ago.

She wanted to praise the care he received at Hammersmith Hospital, saying:

“He loved the hospital, loved the doctors, nurses and all the carers who were looking after him.

“He appreciated everything that the NHS did for him and so do the rest of us.

“He’s known for the past three years that he was going to die but he never felt sorry for himself and lived his life with incredible charm and courage.

“It was very inspiring to be around him. He was very accepting of his situation and never got stressed about it at all.”

Madonna shared a heartfelt tribute to her model protégé, saying: “It’s heartbreaking to know you are gone.

“You were always such a kind sweet human and you suffered too much. Hope you are happier wherever you are Nick Kamen.”

Madonna told BBC radio in 1986 that it was Nick’s “charisma” and “beautiful voice” that convinced her to reach out to the Essex performer.

Culture Club star Boy George also led social media tributes this week with his own post which read: “RIP to the most beautiful and sweetest man Nick Kamen” attaching an old photo of the two together.

Kamen’s sister, Denise Kent, was tearful as she added: “He was a real fighter. He gave it everything and was in and out of hospital.

“He never gave up and put up such a good fight. He would always fight back and would not give up.

“He came back so often we would call him Lazarus after biblical character. He really did fight so hard.”
