Coronation Street Corey star says he originally auditioned to play Seb Franklin

Coronation Street star Maximus Evans has revealed that he originally auditioned for the role of Seb Franklin.

The 19-year-old actor has played bad boy Corey Brent in the long-running ITV soap since 2019 but things could have been a lot different for the performer.

Harry Visinoni eventually went on to win the role of Seb and the popular character was brutally murdered in devastating scenes last week.

In a bizarre turn of events, Maximus’ evil alter-ego Corey was actually responsible for the fatal attack along with his vile gang of thugs.

Speaking to Daily Star and other press, Maximus explained: “I auditioned for Corrie a couple of times throughout the years.

“I actually got very close to playing Seb [Franklin] when that role first came up.

“I was saying this to Harry [Visinoni] and we thought it was really funny how it’s really full circle now.”

Corey was involved in a group that assaulted Seb and his girlfriend Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) in an unprovoked hate crime attack.

Due to his severe injures, Seb was declared brain dead and sadly passed away in hospital but Nina survived the horrendous beating.

Villain Corey was arrested by police officers in recent scenes and is now determined to make sure he doesn’t get sent to prison.

Speaking about his character’s future in Weatherfield, Maximus said: “There was definitely the sense of guilt as soon as he realised his true actions and what they have caused.

“I think it’s with characters like Asha [Tanisha Gorey] and his dad Stefan [Paul Opacic] where we will see Corey’s vulnerability and that guilt starts to creep in.

“But at the minute, and going forward, he will start to comprehend what he has truly done which ultimately is a hideous act of violence.”

Viewers are yet to see what exactly happened on the evening of Seb and Nina’s attack and Maximus thinks that fans should get to witness the brutal assault in full.

“With Covid we’ve had to change the way we work on set, especially with the two metre rule, which is very vital thing,” the actor said.

“It was hard and I praise Harry [Visinoni] and Mollie [Gallagher] for their convincing beatings without anybody being there to do the kicking.

“But I hope in the future we do see the full extent of the attack just to add to the sense of the reality and how brutal it truly is.”

Despite being at each others throats on-screen, Maximus shared that he’s been able to create a strong bond with Dev Alahan actor Jimmi Harkishin while the cameras stop rolling.

He said: “I do learn a lot from Jimi because of our interest in films. I’m a cinephile.
