Long Lost Family viewers were left sobbing during Monday night’s episode as two long lost sisters – both abandoned at birth by their biological mother – met up for the first time.
Helen had approached the programme in search of her birth parents after being abandoned outside a Chesterfield hospital in a box.
But what she didn’t expect was to find out she had a half-sister, Jess – who was also a ‘foundling’.
The term refers to babies abandoned at birth, with no idea of their biological origins.
Things got even more synchronised as it was revealed both sisters had happy upbringings with their adoptive families, and both had two children of their own – one with a previous partner and one with their now-fiancés.
And as the pair met up at a hotel for the first time, able to hug as they’d both taken coronavirus tests, viewers couldn’t hold back the tears.
“OMG what a programme tonight, the tears were flowing,” one wrote through the sobs.
Another said: “So many emotions after watching”, while a third added: “Heart goes out to both sides of the story but left me a crying mess!”
“Long Lost Family is making me sob!” someone else wailed.
Helen gave an emotional update as the episode drew to a close, telling her sister: “Finding you, that’s everything I’ve ever wanted, so it’s like everything fell into place.”
Things got even more emotional when Jess revealed a book she’d had made for her sister, entitled ‘Welcome to the Family’, which included photographs of Jess as a child and photographs of her fiancé and children.
Though the researchers had found out who the sisters’ birth mother could be, after Jess initially heard rumours surrounding her identity, as the programme was still in talks with her the mother’s identity couldn’t be revealed.
Monday’s episode also told Victoria’s story, after she was found in a stairwell with a bag of baby clothes.
It was revealed that her mother actually had two other children at the time of her birth.
And there was some speculation amongst fans that the two could actually be related, after they were both found abandoned in the “relatively small” town of Chesterfield.
Presenter Nicky Campbell said: “It’s surprising that two little babies were found in the relatively small town of Chesterfield within 18 months of each other. Could there be a connection?”

“I wonder if they are related then,” one viewer said on Twitter, as another posted: “Is it me, or is there a resemblance between Victoria and Helen? Or am I overthinking this?”
But it wasn’t to be, as the only DNA match revealed in Helen’s file was with half-sister Jess.
Both of Victoria’s birth parents were revealed to be alive – with her dad, who hadn’t known about her birth, willing to meet with her off-camera.
