Dan Walker appeared to confirm that BBC Breakfast will be taken off-air in a major schedule shake-up in time for the Olympics.
Fans of the popular morning programme may not be happy to hear that it seems likely to be cancelled for the entire duration of the major Tokyo sporting event.
While discussing the daily newspaper headlines, Dan brought up the upcoming Olympic Games, as Louise Minchin chipped in: “Yes, I’m very excited. They start – well, the opening ceremony is later this week.”
“It’s Friday, and then it all kicks off on Saturday, but it does begin today with a bit of football,” Dan explained.
Louise said: “I shall be watching from home during the Olympics, so Olympic Breakfast is a little bit different – you’re here.”

“Yes,” Dan responded. “We’re in a green screen studio so we’ll look like we’re in Tokyo.”
Louise went on to chuckle: “I’ve just given it a new name, I’ve named it Olympic Breakfast by the way.”
“It’s not called Olympic Breakfast but you can call it that if you like,” Dan laughed in response. “It’s on from five o’clock in the morning so a slightly earlier start, until nine.
“Louise will be watching at home and Sam Quek is gonna be on. Between us, we’ve won one Olympic gold.”

Louise mused: “Hmm, let me think who that is!”
Field hockey player Sam Quek, MBE, won gold as part of the British Olympic team at the 2016 games, before going on to appear as a contestant in reality shows like I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here and Celebrity Masterchef.
Daily Star Online has contacted the BBC for comment and clarification.
It came as Louise appeared to offer a hint at her official leaving date, with Dan saying: “In the next few days we’ve got a lovely build-up to the Olympics this summer.

“Because this programme is actually not on, is it, for the course of the Olympics?”
“I’m not here,” Louise reminded him.
Dan quickly corrected himself: “Importantly, Louise isn’t here.”
Louise did add: “I may not be here but I will be watching back-to-back Olympic sport, it’s my favourite time of the year.”
Louise first announced her intention to quit the show after 20 years last month.

Speaking from the red sofa, she said: “I have decided that it is time that I stop setting my alarm for 3:40 in the morning and I am going to be leaving the programme.”
In a statement released at the time, Louise said an official date for her leaving hadn’t been set, but suggested it would likely be after the summer.
She said in June: “It’s not going to be for a while and just before anything else I wanted to thank everyone who is watching for your loyalty for your support over all those years, I have absolutely loved being part of it, I will really miss it but it is time now to stop.”
She said she will leave sometime after the summer but “the date is not set in stone”.
