Amy Winehouse was 27 when she died 10 years ago today – two years after splitting from ex husband Blake Fielder-Civil.
Although only married for a couple of years, the singer’s relationship with Fielder-Civil was a defining period of her life.
The music icon and Blake shared a notoriously turbulent relationship, with her ex husband later admitting to introducing her to heroin.
The fans of the British singer-songwriter often paint Blake as the villain in her life story, saying he enabled Amy’s drug usage.
However, he refused to claim responsibility for her tragic end. He told Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain in 2018: “Amy didn’t do anything Amy didn’t want to do.”
Speaking to OK!, Amy’s mother Janis said she no longer blames him for her daughter’s death.
She said: “When it comes to Blake, I’ve decided never to speak badly about anyone. I know it was about love and I don’t think you can judge when it comes to love. Love does the walking and talking.
“I believe the relationship between Amy and Blake was intimate and genuine. Their marriage was impulsive but it was still pure. It was obviously a complicated relationship but love was at the heart of it.”
Who is Blake Fielder-Civil?
Blake Fielder-Civil was Amy’s ex husband, who she first met in 2003.
Nick Godwyn, Amy’s first manager, told The Times in 2007: “Amy changed overnight after she met Blake. She just sounded completely different. Her personality became more distant.
“And it seemed to me like that was down to the drugs. When I met her she smoked weed but she thought the people who took class-A drugs were stupid. She used to laugh at them.”
They eventually married in a secret ceremony in Miami in May 2007.
Amy and Blake were pictured months later after a serious bust-up, where it emerged they had been taking heroin.
A year later, in 2008, Fielder-Civil was sentenced to 27 months in prison in 2008 for perverting the course of justice and grievous bodily harm.
This led to Amy’s favour Grammy Awards tribute to “my Blake, incarcerated”.
Their marriage fell apart shortly after his release in 2009, when Blake went back to his ex-girlfriend Sarah Aspin.
Amy is said to have drawn inspiration from one of her splits from Blake for her second studio album Back to Black.
Where is Blake Fielder-Civil now?
Blake went on to marry Sarah Aspin, who he was romantically involved with before meeting Amy.
His son was born in May 2011, two months after Amy’s death, and his daughter was born in April 2013.
He is now living in an estate in Leeds, and was seen sharing a kiss with his girlfriend who is known as “Bey” according to The Sun.

The pair are said to be living together in a two-bed flat, confirming they are in a “serious relationship”.
The girlfriend told the publication: “I’m pretty protective of Blake”.
Blake shares two children with his ex-wife Sarah, but has not been seen in public since 2018 when he appeared on Good Morning Britain.
