Rihanna has hit billionaire status after spending the past few years growing her empires outside of her extremely successful music career as she launched Fenty Beauty and Savage x Fenty.
The 33-year-old last released an album in 2016 with Anti, releasing Fenty Beauty the following year in 2017 and Savage x Fenty in 2018.
After successfully spending her time focusing on brands aside from her music, Rihanna’s tease of new tracks in 2021 could still be coming, particularly after her hard work has landed her billionaire status.
But what did she do to get herself billionaire status and make her the wealthiest female musician?
Music
In an utterly shocking success story for the first album, Rihanna’s Music of the Sun, released in 2005, saw track Pon de Replay land the top spot in charts across the world.
At just 17-years-old, Rihanna was already a star to watch from the release of her first album, and with A Girl Like Me and Good Girl Gone Bad following soon after, it’s no surprise that her music catapulted her into stardom.
Rihanna has dived into various genres within the music industry making her a favourite for many fans across the globe.
Throughout her long and successful music career, she has been nominated for an award over 600 times and has taken home the gong over 200 times – with wins at the BRIT Awards, Grammy Awards and even breaking multiple records in the Guinness World Records.
In her years as a musician, Rihanna performed countless sold out performances, so it’s no surprise that her fans are eagerly waiting for her return.
Last year, Rihanna told Vogue that she was “aggressively” working on new music after years of focusing on her other business ventures.
It has been reported that she has been filming for a brand new music video expected soon – but at the minute, all fans can do is wait.
Films
Rihanna’s career on the big-screen isn’t quite to the same extent of her music, but she’s landed herself in some big films over the years.
Most recently Rihanna appeared in Ocean’s 8, which was released in 2018, so Rihanna had been working on the project after cutting back on her hours in the studio.
Ocean’s 8 hit $297million (£213m) in the box office and Rihanna was spotted playing a techy criminal as the ladies pooled together to pull of a heist.
Rihanna also appeared in the Annie remake in 2014 and has done multiple cameos as herself including an appearance in cheerleading classic Bring It On: All or Nothing as she performed Pon De Replay.
Fenty Beauty
Mere months into the release of Fenty Beauty, TIME named it one of the 25 best inventions of 2017. The release of a 40-shade foundation line was great news to many fans of the artist and millions of people were quick to purchase one of the brand new products.
Rihanna wanted to create an inclusive brand, and with Fenty Beauty, that’s exactly what she did – it’s not limited, it’s available to purchase at any time and is extremely accessible.
Fenty moved into the likes of Boots in 2019, making it more accessible to people living in the UK and as more products were released, fans became truly obsessed with the new makeup line.
It is clear that this brand isn’t just endorsed by Rihanna, the products are good quality and it’s clear that buyers actually love the brand – not just the creator.
Fenty Beauty hit makeup records in the months after its release and it has continued to capitalise on its success in the years that followed.
After the success of the beauty brand, Rihanna also launched Fenty Skin just last month, with the latest of her business empires gaining traction and popularity already.
Savage x Fenty
Savage x Fenty launched in 2018 as a glamorous lingerie brand, something which Rihanna has also made sure is inclusive, with people of all shapes and sizes seen modelling her brand.
Pop-up shops and a varied price list has helped Savage x Fenty in its success, and they also launched an Xtra VIP aspect to their website as a subscription service for early access to product releases.
Rihanna has a 30% ownership stake in Savage x Fenty and 50% in Fenty Beauty, Forbes has reported.
It has also been reported that after the brand reached $1billion their next step will be opening Savage x Fenty stores.
Rihanna’s successful career has seen her head down many different paths, but her fans are still eagerly waiting for the relaunch of her music career.
It is expected that new music will be coming this year, but fans have been eagerly waiting for a while, so it’s unclear when a track could be dropped.
