Emmerdale exes Wendy and Russ' real-life connection exposed amid deadly gun siege

Emmerdale star Susan Cookson has revealed that the actor who plays her on-screen evil ex Russ once nearly worked with her real-life husband.

The 56-year-old actress has played Wendy Posner in the ITV soap since 2019.

She’s had a tough time since moving to the village and didn’t expect the arrival of Russ, played by Rob Jarvis, last month.

Wendy has found herself on the receiving end of Russ’ wrath in recent weeks as he’s determined to get his hands on his baby grandson Harry’s inheritance.

He’s resorted to blackmailing Wendy and she’s been adhering to his demands because she is harbouring a secret which she doesn’t want to anyone to know.

However, Russ forced Wendy to reveal that she never qualified as a nurse during Wednesday’s show.

The villain later pulled out a gun and held Wendy and baby Harry’s mum Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) hostage.

While Wendy and Russ are not seeing eye to eye on screen, it appears that they have a great relationship and enjoy spending time together when the cameras stop rolling.

Susan told Daily Star and other press earlier this month: “From the moment I met him, and we ran a few of the scenes, I knew it was gonna be brilliant.

“We’re friends for life now. We really are.

“We met through this job but it’s weird how we’ve talked at length about our career and there’s been times where we’ve nearly met.”

She continued: “He almost worked with my husband years ago but he accepted another job.

“It’s great because we feel like we’ve kind of got a shared history.”

Back in the village, Victoria tried to talk Russ down but she had no luck.

He said: “I’m facing prison and you love can stop that happening.

“So let’s be very clear – no-one goes anywhere until I’ve got that money. You need to log in and transfer it over right now.”

Emmerdale spoilers have revealed that Russ cocks the gun and points it at Victoria in upcoming scenes, demanding she transfers the money to him.

When armed police arrive on the scene, the stand-off at the Hide escalates into a full-blown siege.

Outside the Hide, Jacob, Dan and Bob hear a shot ring out.

Will Wendy and Victoria make it out alive?

Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV at 7pm with an extra helping on Thursdays at 8pm
