Capital FM’s Jingle Bell Ball with Barclaycard has been impacted by Covid-19 after Coldplay and Lil Nas X have been forced to pull out of the event after members of their teams have tested positive for coronavirus, while the new Omicron variant sweeps the nation.
Fans have been left fuming after the radio station confirmed the sad news that two of their biggest acts of the weekend have now pulled out of the event.
Capital FM also confirmed that there will be stand-ins, with Arrdee and Tom Grennan now playing, as well as Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran set to perform longer sets.
Taking to their website to share the news, Capital said: “Sadly we have to announce that Coldplay and Lil Nas X have had to pull out of performing at this weekend’s Jingle Bell Ball with Barclaycard.
“Both acts have had members of their teams test positive for Covid-19 and therefore are not able to perform. We’d like to wish the very best and a speedy recovery to Coldplay, Lil Nas X and their teams.
“Of course everyone at Capital is absolutely gutted, but the show must go on…
“As a result of the changes, ArrDee and Tom Grennan will be joining the line-up. ArrDee will be taking to the Jingle Bell Ball Stage on both Saturday and Sunday night whilst Tom Grennan will be performing on Saturday night.
“We’d also like to confirm that at this time, Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran will be also playing extended sets on their respective nights.”
The radio station also posted about the news on social media, where fans were quick to comment on the announcement.
One fan wasn’t happy with the news and said: “Replacing two of the main interesting acts with two people […] who you can see at any festival? That isn’t on. These tickets were so expensive, I’m not paying all this money for this.”
Another said: “I’m actually so annoyed I only got tickets to see Lil Nas X and they not even getting anyone instead of him,” to which someone replied: “Tom Grennan and ArrDee Have been added.”
But the fan was far from impressed and said: “Why do they get 2 extra artists on Saturday but Sunday just 1?”
A third replied to the announcement and penned: “I don’t get how swapping 2 massive artists with 2 people with hardly any hits is very fair is it? People have spent good money to see these acts alone I bet, I’m sure there’s bigger artists who would love to play this weekend.”
While a fourth fumed: “I was taking my boyfriend to see Coldplay I am absolutely devastated, are you offering any refunds for this we are gutted I can’t believe it.”
