Loose Women's Katie Piper says her new face is made out of a cow after acid attack

Acid attack victim Katie Piper has revealed her new face is made from a cow.

The Loose Women star, 38, who was disfigured in 2008, said four layers of her skin were damaged.

She then had to have an artificial replacement which comes from a heifer.

The brave mum-of-two, awarded an OBE last month, said: |All the four layers of the skin were destroyed.

“I had all of my old face removed.

“So they literally had to start from the beginning with a man-made dermal substitute which was made of collagen and elastin taken from a cow.”

She chuckled: “Cue all the moody cow jokes. My face is made of a cow.”

Before she received her OBE, Katie told Harper’s Bazaar: “Trauma is a fact of life, but it needn’t be a life sentence.

“As my confidence was rebuilt, my acceptance and surrendering to this new life took place, I realised that I may be able to help other people.”

“We weren’t victims, like we were referred to in our medical notes. We were survivors. We wanted a second chance at life.”
