The Chase's Mark Labbett says writers refuse to scrap fat jokes as it 'makes job hard'

The Chase star Mark Labbett will still be the target of multiple fat-shaming jokes on the ITV show, the quizmaster has said.

Mark has famously been referred to as The Beast ever since he stepped foot on the show and his weight is regularly the punchline issued by host Bradley Walsh.

However, despite his staggering 10st weight loss, Mark still remains the target of multiple jokes pointed directly at his weight, though he revealed it’s not Bradley himself who comes up with the quips.

Mark told his fans that he was overjoyed to be buying a pair of 42″ black jeans to find they were loose, prompting a fan to tell him she hopes that means the fat jokes will come to an end.

The fan tweeted to Mark: “Hopefully this means Brad stops with the fat jokes they got old real quick. Even if you think they’re funny I cringe every time.”

Mark responded: “The jokewriters openly admit they won’t stop with the fat shaming because it makes their job much harder :(“.

Fans were quick to respond to his tweet, telling the quizmaster that they need “new writers” or need to “work harder” in order to scrap the targeted jokes.

He recently told Loose Women that he lost 10 stone after previously weighing 29 stone in 2003.

He said up until lockdown he weight around 26 stone, adding: “And then a few things happened quite nicely and came together and I started losing weight.”
