BBC's Holby City fans bid farewell to fan-favourite Jac Naylor in tragic finale

Holby City delivers its final episode after a 23-year run as dying Jac finally met her fate.

As fans watched Jac fight to battle the deadly tumour, emotional scenes showed her suffer a crippling stroke that left her brain dead and bed-bound on a ventilator.

As Sasha and Max clamoured to administer aid as she slipped into an unconscious state, Fletch informed them that she asked not to be resuscitated should be left in a vegetative state.

After last week’s episode saw Elliot and Max fail in their mission to remove Jac’s dying tumour, hope was still alive for Jac to be saved.

But before he could put the plan into action, with hesitation from an exhausted Jac, Sasha is shocked to see Jac fall unconscious with time running out to save her.

The episode is a final homage to the show’s history and to the NHS as fans watched dramatic and emotional scenes that wrapped up one of the BBCs most beloved medical dramas.

Priestess Lexy was later informed that she would be given Jac’s heart, saving her life as she desperately searched for a donor match.

Jac was taken off bypass and her organs were donated to a variety of sick patients in need of a transplant.

Friend and colleague Nicky could be seen breaking down as her organs were removed in theatre, as the staff come to terms with her tragic death.

Fans took to Twitter to share their sadness at the show’s dramatic end.

The end of the episode heard Jac’s voice paying homage to the NHS and the hard working doctors and nurses that work tirelessly to heal the public.

As the final credits rolled, black and white photographs accompanied the text showing the changing cast over the show’s 23-year-year stretch.
