Britain’s Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon was seen welling up as she admitted being emotional after listening to a singing group comprised of frontline workers perform on the show.
The former chart-topped couldn’t control her emotions when the troupe – made up of paramedics, doctors, police officers and other frontline workers from the Covid-19 pandemic – took to the stage to sing their original song.
It wasn’t just the judges who found themselves overcome listening to the tune – with audience members and viewers at home also finding themselves reduced to tears by the emotional performance.
The impressive vocals conveyed the message of solidarity, loss and sadness contained in the lyrics perfectly as The Frontline Singers gave Strange Old World its TV debut.
Fans of the ITV talent finding show then took to Twitter to heap praise on them for their efforts, both onstage and during the pandemic.
One posted: “The Frontline Singers are so good. Even if they hadn’t been, they’re a reminder of who we need to thank for getting us through Covid.”
Another commented: “Everyone should give @TFSingers a real clap of applause for having to go through hell with Covid-19 for the past two years and managed to pull a brave face doing their best on Britain’s Got Talent.”
A third tweeted: “What an amazing performance. Had me in tears good luck going forward.”
Another impressed viewer continued: “@TFSingers just seen you on Britain’s Got Talent. Tears were streaming down my cheeks. Thank you so much. I’m also frontline in a school, so it rang true. Wish you were based in Staffordshire! Thank you.”
A fifth added: “Not a dry eye in this house you are truly amazing. Thank you to every front line worker out there.”
One more wrote: “The NHS choir were absolutely incredible huge congrats to them and I would love to say a massive thank you to them because I believe in the NHS and we are all in this together. It was such a moving audition and I think they’re going to go far.”
