BBC Breakfast fans fume at 'snide' Naga Munchetty as she hits out at Carol Kirkwood

BBC Breakfast fans were left fuming with presenter Naga Munchetty as she said weather presenter Carol Kirkwood looks like a “chicken”.

Carol was out at Ascot racecourse for Ladies’ Day, and rocking a range of incredible fascinators for the occasion – going from a small cream piece to an extravagant black netted garment.

Discussing the event with sports correspondent Mike Bushell and her co-host Charlie Stayt, Naga couldn’t resist the cheeky swipe.

Mike said: “It’s not just about the racing – it’s the battle of the hats. Fascinators.”

Charlie agreed: “It’s all about the style,” as Naga asked Mike: “Would you go up against Carol in a hat? I don’t think anyone would go up against Carol in anything!”

Naga wasn’t impressed by Carol’s extravagant hat

Mike was hasty to say: “No, no, no! A beautiful bird, I think this morning. The cockatoo hat this morning, isn’t it?”

Charlie teased: “Well, we’ll see what’s coming up in just a moment…” but Naga interrupted him: “I was thinking more of a chicken.”

Outraged, Mike asked: “What?!” as Naga moved swiftly on with a quirked eyebrow, telling viewers: “Carol’s at Ascot – here’s a gorgeous view for you over the racecourse. Carol’s here somewhere!”

Carol was compared to a ‘chicken’ and a ‘satellite dish’

However, it wasn’t just Naga who had a quip for Carol, as Charlie went on to compare her look to a “satellite dish”.

Naga asked Carol: “Listen, are you going to treat us to a fabulous hat every time we see you… different hats because that one’s gorgeous.”

But Charlie then joked: “I think this one is Carol… I am thinking this one is like a satellite dish. Is that the look you’re going for?”

Viewers were divided by the segment

Carol can clearly hold her own, as she fired back: “I wanted to beam back to Salford. The pictures from here Charlie… so I thought I wouldn’t take any chances.

“You never know what the reception is going to be like.”

Fans on Twitter were less than happy with the on-screen taunts, as one wrote: “Snide digs galore.”

Another fumed: “That was you at your waspish best with Carol this morning Naga!”

Others were simply loving Carol’s weather report and stunning floral dress at Ascot, as one penned: “What a beautiful day and love your dress this morning, can I ask where it’s from?”

“Looking gorgeous Carol!” someone else chimed in.
