Anne Heche's son hopes his mum is 'free from pain' as actress is confirmed dead

Anne Heche’s son Homer has shared hopes that his mum is “free from pain” as he spoke out following her “death” at the age of 53 following a car crash.

The 20-year-old shared a statement following the news that the US Hollywood actress was legally declared dead under Californian law on Friday (August 12).

Homer, 20, who Anne shared with her ex Coley Laffoon, released a statement via People, which read: “My brother Atlas and I lost our Mom.

“After six days of almost unbelievable emotional swings, I am left with a deep, wordless sadness. Hopefully my mom is free from pain and beginning to explore what I like to imagine as her eternal freedom.”

He also said he was “grateful” for those who have supported him and Atlas, 13, who Anne shared with actor James Tupper.

He added: “Over those six days, thousands of friends, family, and fans made their hearts known to me.

“I am grateful for their love, as I am for the support of my Dad, Coley, and my stepmom Alexi who continue to be my rock during this time. Rest In Peace Mom, I love you.”

The crash saw Anne’s car smash into the garage of an apartment complex and then another building before bursting into flames.

Her family, in a joint statement released by a representative, read: “Today we lost a bright light, a kind and most joyful soul, a loving mother, and a loyal friend.

“Anne will be deeply missed but she lives on through her beautiful sons, her iconic body of work, and her passionate advocacy.

“Her bravery for always standing in her truth, spreading her message of love and acceptance, will continue to have a lasting impact.”

Anne’s ex-girlfriend Ellen DeGeneres, who she dated between 1997 and 2000, wrote on Instagram: “This is a sad day. I’m sending Anne’s children, family and friends all of my love.”

Anne’s ex James Tupper also took to social media to pay tribute to his partner of 11 years, saying: “Love you forever”.
