Emmerdale fame

Sandra Marvin is best known for her role as headteacher Jessie Grant in Emmerdale, the mother of Billy Fletcher and Ellis Chapman, between 2017 to 2019.

She later became a Dingle after marrying Marlon, following a long will they-won’t they storyline.

Their romance was not without its problems though, with Jessie’s son Ellis turning up in the dales and throwing a number of punches at her future husband.

That wasn’t all, as ex-husband Al Chapman arrived and tore Jessie and Marlon apart, with Jessie departing the dales for good after spending the night with Al.

Speaking to OK! Magazine, Sandra also revealed that she stepped away from her role in Emmerdale to take part in the theatre production Thunder Girls.

“I always felt I was being pulled in so many directions, still with a love for singing and theatre,” said Sandra.

“It’s been an amazing time on Emmerdale, but I’m excited about what the future could hold.”

She added: “It was a really hard one as I love soaps and I always dreamed of being in one.”

After leaving Emmerdale, Sandra has continued to appear on stage and screen, in TV series including Call The Midwife.

Away from the soaps, Sandra is an impressive vocalist and has sang backing vocals for some of the biggest names in the business.

In 2016, the star was a backing vocalist for music icon Kate Bush and performed on her Before The Dawn Live album and tour.

She also joined BBC The One Show presenter Michael Ball OBE on his If Everyone Was Listening and Heroes UK tours, as a special guest artist.

That’s not all, as Sandra has also worked with singers including Liam Gallagher, Tim Burgess, The Charlatans and Alexandra Burke throughout her career.

Sandra has also broken through into Hollywood too, providing the vocals for the soundtrack to Academy Award winning film Gravity, and singing on the soundtrack to 2018 Disney film Mary Poppins Returns.

Sister Act stardom

With her superstar vocals, it is no surprise that Sandra has put her talents to use in a number of hit musicals.

After leaving Emmerdale, the star went on to appear in productions including Sister Act, where she is currently playing Deloris Van Cartier in the stage adaptation of the blockbuster film.

Long before starring in Sister Act however, Sandra also treaded the boards opposite a number of TV icons, including Amanda Holden, Natalie Casey, Angela Griffin and Tamzin Outwaite, who she starred with in the play Stepping Out.

Along with playing Becky in the West End production of Waitress, and appearing in productions including The Crucible, Chicago and Hairspray, Sandra is certainly an exceptionally talented star.

Although Sandra has regularly shared sweet snaps of her professional life on social media, not much is known about the star’s private life.

Emmerdale bosses recently teased that a number of familiar favourites are returning to the soap for its 50th anniversary, including Diane Sugden.

However, could there be a number of cameo appearances that are being kept hidden?

Jessie Dingle star Sandra recently teased that she could make a return to the soap for its anniversary, telling RSVP Live “never say never.”

“It’s really funny, actually,” said Sandra.

“I know where my pathway is on at the moment, but when people are at the stage door, they’ll fill me in on what’s been happening — like, ‘oh, that Marlon, I think he’s off with that Rhona’. They all give me updates on what’s been happening. I think it’s so sweet.

“The response that I get from people, when they come to the show and tell me about it afterwards — it’s great. You never say never, but at the moment I’m quite happy being Deloris.”
