Love Island's Haris breaks silence on viral punch video after dramatic villa exit

Ousted Love Islander Haris Namani has addressed video footage of him brawling in the street and knocking a man to the ground.

The hunk, 21, who was the second islander to be dumped from the reality show, said he was “devastated” that the video was seen as it does not reflect who he is.

The TV salesman and amateur boxer explained the clip does not show everything that happened that night and says he and the victim of his punch are now friends.

“I’m devastated that this video has been seen, it’s not a reflection of my character,” he said.

“I’m not someone that goes looking for fights and I didn’t want to be in that situation.

“This was a heat of the moment thing.

“The video doesn’t show everything that happened.

“Afterwards we met up and we cleared the air; we’ve shaken hands and we get along now. It’s not something that would happen again.”

Mobile phone footage emerged on Monday of Haris trading blows with the man, hitting him once in the face before the man stumbles and then is knocked to the ground with a second blow.

First shared on Snapchat it is understood to have been filmed in his hometown of Doncaster last year.

Last week on the show Namani was involved in a altercation with fellow contestant Shaq Muhammad with the pair shouting at one another until they were told to calm down by their villa castmates.

But Namani insisted they are both friends.

He explained: “I knew 100% nothing would have come from that disagreement and we would hug it out.

“I said sorry for my part and he said the same and that’s it. We were the first two in and we got along after that as normal.”

ITV had announced a package of new welfare and safety measures aimed at reducing harm to contestant’s mental health including eight therapy sessions after they leave and enhanced behaviour training.

Also dumped from the villa was Anna-May Robey who failed to find love, and said of Kai who she was coupled up with: “I just wasn’t feeling it.”

Love Island airs nightly on ITV2 and ITVX at 9pm
