Piers Morgan issued a “gender update” after photoshopping his face onto singer Sam Smith’s body after they wore a controversial outfit to the BRIT Awards on Saturday night.
The hot-headed TV presenter, 57, shared a picture of the singer’s controversial black latex onesie which featured a rather high neck, sleeves and legs which appeared to be overinflated and a zip going up the front of his all-in-one look.
Captioning the snap, he said: “Gender update: I’m now identifying as a complete berk.”

Piers was referring to Sam’s announcement that they identified as non-binary and told fans to refer to them using they/them pronouns.
Many of Piers’ 8.3million followers rushed to the comments to share their thoughts on the post, with many offering up mixed reviews.
“Finally identifying as something everyone knew you were already, congratulations on finally admitting to yourself who you are,” said one fan.
“Brilliant! I generally despise you, but this is great. Well done!!” added a second, while a third joked: “Many of us have always known, but it’s wonderful that you feel safe enough to come out publicly.”
But other fans blasted the post, with one replying: “Not an outfit I would choose to wear, but if he feels comfortable wearing it, where is the problem?”
The former Good Morning Britain presenter also branded the Unholy singer “over-thirsty for attention” on Twitter over the outfit.
The broadcaster captioned the shot of Sam, saying: “Methinks ‘they’ is getting a teeny weeny bit over-thirsty for attention #BRITs.”
Piers’ incendiary remark sparked debate, as other social media users took to the tweet’s reply section to share their mixed opinions.
Some denounced the TV star for his use of quotation marks around Sam’s pronoun, accusing him of trying to “to take someone’s identity away”.
One argued: “It’s just pop @piersmorgan – it’s supposed to be fun, stupid and outrageous.”
Another typed: “Methinks putting they in quotes is a disgusting attempt to take someone’s identity.”
Piers had previously taken aim at Sam as he blasted the Grammy Awards 2023 in a recent column.
During the event, Sam was joined by Kim Petras, who is transgender, as the pair performed their award-winning single, Unholy, to a star-studded crowd.
Piers was also criticised for misgendering the performer by referring to Smith as “he” following his BRIT Awards appearance.
