Shannen Doherty's long-running feud with Charmed co-star ended after cancer battle

Shannen Doherty’s feud with one of her Charmed co-stars saw the pair bury the hatchet when her cancer battle was revealed.

The Beverley Hills, 90210 star, who turns 52 years old today (April 12), announced that cancer had returned to her body in 2020 after overcoming breast cancer in 2015.

Doherty has been suffering through the return of the disease in stage IV, affecting other parts of her body.

After years of tension between Doherty and Alyssa Milano, the latter revealed that relations had improved since she reached out following Doherty’s first cancer diagnosis.

Doherty had taken centre stage with Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs in Charmed, but left her role as Prue Halliwell in 2001 after just three seasons following reports of a feud between cast members.

She told Entertainment Tonight at the time: “There was too much drama on the set and not enough passion for the work.

“I want to work with actors who really, really care and that want to be there every single day.

“I don’t want to work with people who b—h about their job and complain about it and say that they hate it or anything else.”

Milano explained that relations between the two had improved over the years as she reflected on their dynamic to Entertainment Tonight in October 2021.

“I would say we are cordial,” she said.

“You know, I could take responsibility for a lot of our tension that we had.

“I think a lot of our struggle came from feeling that I was in competition rather than it being that sisterhood that the show was so much about. And I have some guilt about my part in that.”

She said she contacted her former co-star when Shannen was diagnosed with cancer in 2015.

“When I heard about her diagnosis, I reached out to her,” she added

“And I will send her DMs every couple of months to just check in.”

“I have respect for her. Great actress, loves her family so much, and I just wish I could’ve felt strong enough in who I was to recognise that back then.”

Charmed debuted in 1998 and ran for eight seasons. It starred Alyssa, Shannen and Holly Marie Combs as three sisters who were extremely powerful witches known as The Charmed ones.

The supernatural fantasy drama followed the sisters’ lives as they protected the innocent against evil.

Though several characters who died on the show returned for guest appearances, Shannen never reprised her role.
